#24 My Doctor Says I'm Getting Younger
55 years ago when I was 15 years old in grade 10 I wrestled in the 191 pound class. Or at least that is what I was thinking at my last doctor's appointment this week when I asked him to weigh me in, just like I used to do before a wrestling meet. So he obliged me, and weighed me in, I weighed 215 lbs. So over those 55 years at my existing weight I have gained 24 lbs from my weight at 15. But that is not the whole story, since that time at my heaviest I think I weighed in at 265 lbs, so with current weight at 215 I have lost 50 lbs.
So when I met with the doctor at my last appointment, this week he went over my blood tests, logged in to the system and checked out my lab results. His comment, "Your blood work is fantastic!" He then put the blood pressure cuff on me and tested my blood pressure, his comment "Perfect!". Next up was my heart rate, his comment "Great! You know what you are getting younger!"
So what do I owe my recent positive health report card to? Well first up was following the recommendations of Maggie Moon's book "The Mind Diet" which include lots of healthy food my wife grows in her garden, and lots of hard work-exercise I do taking care of our animals, and harvesting firewood.
Next up I would say the advice of Dr Matthew Philips who recommended one of the easiest ways to address insulin resistence and to provide the brain with more energy is to limit yourself to one big meal a day.

Now this is only my personal experience, but so far so good, and believe me I know how lucky I am to have my dementia MCI limited to date to short term memory and wayfinding issues.
Peace be with you!
