24 Medals for Team USA Triathletes at 2023 World Triathlon Age-Group Super Sprint Distance Championships

PONTEVEDRA, Spain?—?Twenty-four age group Team USA athletes won World Championship medals, including eight golds, on Friday, Sept. 22 at the 2023 World Triathlon Age-Group Super-Sprint Distance Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.?
Six U.S. women won gold, including Raphaela Lima in the 15-19 age group; Elizabeth Ordeman (20-24); Steph Popelar (55-59); Michelle Tuttle (60-64), Donna Smyers (65-69) and Sibyl Jacobson (80-84).?
The women’s 65-69 age group was a clean sweep for the U.S. women, led by Smyers, Susan Olesky for silver and Sheila Cotter with the bronze.?
Rick Kozlowski (70-74) and John Charman (85+) won the two World Championships for the U.S. men.?
The fast and furious Super-Sprint Distance Triathlon race on Friday started with a 300-meter swim in the Puente de los Tirantes and continued with a mostly flat 6.4-kilometer bike course, ending with a 1.6 km run.?
Nearly 400 U.S. multisport athletes representing age group Team USA are competing in Pontevedra at the 2023 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships, which also includes Sunday’s Standard-Distance Triathlon Championship and Standard-Distance Aquabike Championships.?
Two hundred forty-seven Team USA athletes in the Standard Triathlon will race a 1500-meter swim, 38.9-kilometer bike and a 10-kilometer run. The Standard-Distance Aquabike World Championship race includes 110 Team USA athletes who will take on the swim-bike format featuring a 1500m swim and 38.9k bike course.?
