- Most UK Renewables Projects Fail to Clear Planning - A new study has found the majority of applications to build UK renewables projects were unsuccessful in progressing through planning. - UK Ranked Third Globally for BESS Market - Ernst & Young’s (EY) latest Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) has ranked the UK battery energy storage system (BESS) market third globally. The RECAI is a biannual report that ranks countries by how attractive their renewables sector is for investment. The report places the UK sixth, a step up that is partly attributed to increased government funding for the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, which received over £1 billion in the most recent auction round (AR6). - Record Start to 2024 for UK Heat Pump Installations - Heat pump installations are on course for a record-breaking year in the United Kingdom, according to the latest data from certification body MCS. May 2024 was the second-highest month on record for installations with MCS recording 4,849 air-sourced heat pump installations. - Energy Assets Net Zero Launches Solar Rental Service for Commercial and Industrial Sector - Energy Assets Net Zero (EA NZ), part of the Energy Assets group, has launched a new asset adoption package to design, install and maintain solar PV systems for commercial and industrial customers with no upfront costs. Businesses and publicly funded organisations will be able to install solar PV arrays without upfront costs. EA NZ will design, install and maintain the solar arrays, charging a monthly rental payment, with end users in control of the power generated. ?Read the full story.

- Energy Stored as Liquefied Air: £300m Investment Triggers Construction of UK’s First Commercial-scale Plant - Highview Power has received £300m (US$379m) in funding to build the UK’s first commercial-scale liquid air energy storage plant (LAES), designed to balance peaks and troughs in power demand as more renewable energy sources are brought online. Construction of the facility is now underway in Carrington near Manchester. It is scheduled to begin operations in early 2026 and the company predicts it will provide more than 700 jobs in construction and the supply chain. - Scale of Wiltshire Solar Farm Revealed in Latest Plans - Plans have shown the scale of a controversial proposed solar park that could be built in Wiltshire. A planning application has been submitted for the construction of a 15MW solar development on land to the east of Blounts Court Farm, on the edge of Potterne. - Developer Elements Green Wins Planning Consent For 360MW/720MWh UK BESS Project - Solar and energy storage developer Elements Green has secured planning permission for its Staythorpe battery energy storage system (BESS) in the East Midlands region of the UK. The project will have a 360MW peak and a storage capacity of 720MWh, and has a planned operational life of 40 years. Elements Green has set a target date of 2026 for the system to become operational. - Q Energy Sells 33-MW Solar Project in UK - European renewables developer Q Energy announced today the sale of a 33-MW solar project in Northeast England to UK specialist real assets investment manager AlphaReal. The Whinfield Solar facility is located near Darlington. Construction works on the site, which are still underway, kicked off earlier this year. Its nearly 60,000 ground-mounted modules will produce enough clean electricity to power 8,700 homes once operational. Read the full story.
- Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld Installs Solar at Flagship Sales Centre in Stafford - Motorhome dealership Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld has installed a rooftop solar PV system to reduce its carbon emissionAt its flagship sales centre in Creswell Park, Stafford, the dealer has installed 300 solar panels in partnership with ECO-1. The panels are expected to generate around 85,000kWh of electricity each year, around 8,000kWh of which will be fed back into the UK grid. Read the full story.
- RES Seeks Planning Consent for 30MW Solar PV Farm - Renewable energy developer RES is seeking planning consent from Stafford Borough Council for a 30MW solar PV farm. If consented to and developed, the project will be operational for 40 years and feature energy storage to help “increase the flexibility and generation opportunities of the site”, RES said. The Leaford Solar Farm, situated on land between Stallington and Saverly Green, aims to increase biodiversity by 74%. This will be accomplished by planting wildflower meadows and native trees, over 2km of new hedgerows, and installing hedgehog houses, bee banks, and bird boxes.
