23 Thoughts Inspired from Week 1

23 Thoughts Inspired from Week 1

Well, the first week of 2023 has come and gone. One of my 23 intentions for the year is to write a books worth of content - shifting from writing a book, which has been on my list the last two years.

With that in mind, I am going to take a run at a weekly newsletter - 23 thoughts inspired from the week. It will include a combination of things that piqued my interest this week, shoutouts to people and places that filled my cup and sharing inspiring stories!

Soooooo, here goes nothin' --> 23 thoughts inspired from week 1 of 2023:

  • It's not often that coaches have to deal with life and death situations on the field but in this week's Monday Night Football game in Cincinnati, Damar Hamlin collapsed into cardiac arrest in the middle of the game. Inspiring leadership was on full display from that moment on by many people including Bills head coach Sean McDermott - Article & Bills trainer Danny Kellington - Article
  • The best news of all is that Damar woke up and is communicating - Article ??
  • Thanks to Daniel Delgado, P.Eng. & Jordan Tetreau for having me over to TradeSpace for a chat with your team about my journey & the power of having a growth mindset - really love what you and your team are building!
  • Shoutout to Dr. Karen Quinn for the adjustment this week! One of the best chiro's in #yyc who also happens to be super creative - check out her body inspired art!

"Keep your eyes to the sky, Never glued to your shoes!" - Mac Miller

  • Reading a couple books right now including "Never Finished" by David Goggins - That dude is crazy. I find his story of overcoming childhood abuse, a learning disability and poverty to be very inspiring. In this book he also chronicles how no major publishers believed in his first book so he put his life savings on it and bet on himself. Nobody can want it more than you - are you ready to bet on yourself?
  • You know what's really nice? being greeted by someone with a smile and friendly demeanor - Much respect to Bob Sumner for the warm & kind greeting at the door of PARKER PR Inc. earlier this week --> it's all about the little things!
  • J.P. Gaston & I are excited to be collaborating with Ellen Parker and her team as we build out season 6 of the TBD Inc.
  • We have exciting news about some changes to next seasons show that we'll be sharing soon - currently, we are aiming to have episode 1 out on January 24th!
  • One of my favorite coffee shops in #yyc has become Primal Grounds in West Hills - great vibes, great coffee & amazing food! The morning glory muffin is awesome!
  • Kathleen Moran , really enjoyed our chat over coffee this week - the business of death is a really fascinating space and I'm looking forward to continuing the conversation!
  • Connor Bedard is quite the player.. going to be a superstar in the show, no doubt. I loved how he kept it about the team after leading Canada to their 20th World Junior Gold Medal this week - Link
  • Really enjoying following Sahil Bloom on LinkedIn - content is valuable, visuals are great and loved 2023 self-assessment tool in his newsletter.
  • Fitness goals have been a big part of my life the last 5 years or so - felt like I needed a bit of a refresh / kickstart this year. Happy to report that about 300 minutes of exercise so far this week and feeling great!!
  • Did a review of the coaching insights I've had - one stood out as a good reminder:

"You aren't insecure, you just think you are" Syd Banks

  • I'm super excited about the upcoming Calgary Surge season - Here's the inspiring story of how team President & Vice-Chairman Jason Ribeiro, Ph.D. overcame a difficult childhood to get where he is today! - Article
  • Enjoyed catching up this week, Cal Misener - I always leave our chats with a full cup and lots of thoughts to ponder. Really appreciate the intro to Cory Chadwick , excited to learn more about The Mental Gym!
  • Reminder to any podcasters reading this: don't forget to hit record!
  • I have 5 audible credits... would love any recommendations on must read books! - email
  • Catching up with old friends is so good for the soul - had a chance in the last week to grab coffee with Jimmy Adams when I was up in Wainwright and Matthew Ford yesterday - loved catching up, so grateful to have you guys in my life!
  • Shopping life hack via. Sonia Funk that I found myself using this week and honestly every week, stick to the perimeter of the store - most of the real food is there ??
