23 goals in 2023

In 2023 I set 23 goals and they fell into 4 categories. Personal goals such as financial and assets. Family goals such as experiences, behavioral and connections to extended family. Fitness such as run everyday and complete a half marathon. Last, professional goals such as learn more Spanish and expand my network. Some goals were personal so I am not sharing all 23 goals here but this is how they broke down by count:
??? 6 Personal ??? 5 Family ??? 6 Fitness ??? 6 Professional
Goals by category and status
Highlights and Findings
Sometimes missing a goal is ok
Missed goals were; shoot 75 or better at Elmhurst and to complete a marathon.? With my father so sick through this summer and passing this fall these goals were not a priority so I did not golf many rounds of 18 and long runs were the same.
Some goals led to amazing outcomes
Run 1,000 miles; actual will be just over 1,400
Run a Half Marathon; completed 5
One big family event per month; led to numerous trips (some smaller trips and some were vacations), concerts (including Taylor Swift for the girls!), visits with family.
Almost doubling the amount of leads.
Specific Goal Definitions
A few of the goals were not defined enough and I will learn from this for 2024.?Define the outcomes so mixed outcomes don’t happen the result is either a yes or a no. I saw this with both mixed results and a few of the completed goals.

I would have liked if I defined a bit more precise goals. While they were still specific and measurable they feel like the outcome might not have been fully aligned to the objective I had at the beginning of the year.
An example of this is “build more strength routines” where the outcome I was looking for was more flexibility and to have some sort of strength cycles to milestone to or define a goal that leads to the desired outcome, workout more, for example deadlift 350,000 pounds. A goal like this would force deadlifting 2 to 3 times a week and would be something to strive toward.
Data Kills Denial
Another thing I learned this year Data kills denial! Measure and monitor your goals and the outcomes will happen. Here are a few examples outcomes:
92% increase in leads.
Top 8% of learners on Duolingo and learned 1034 new Spanish words,
Single digit golf handicap 9.7. Not sure if this was because I did not golf much??.
Ran every day for over 1,400 miles.
Habits and lifestyle choices
I love habits! I align some of my goals to habits but some I did not and many lifestyle choices I did not make goals around either but monitoring and reflecting on your daily habits and choices is nice to do as well! For example a lifestyle choice I have made is this is my first full year without any alcohol as an adult. Also, weight loss was not a goal but with the lifestyle changes and fitness habits I am 34 pounds lighter and a heck of a lot stronger and way more flexible.
2023 takeaways
Tell people how you feel about them. Connect often, forgive easier, work hard, love deeply, support and encourage each other!
Bring on 2024
I am looking forward to realizing my goals for 2024.?This past year has been tough with the loss of my Dad but I am so happy I had defined goals, daily habits and maintained my lifestyle choices in 2023. It truly helped me be present with my Dad as he transitioned. It also helped in the grieving process to have daily habits to keep moving forward.
