2/22 reflection

Things I learned last year...

I have kept a day & dream journal for a long time. But there was a difficult and unexpected personal experience this past autumn that packed such a pow that it stopped my dreaming in its tracks. As in "we interrupt this regular programming for...", well, a blank screen of static. A haze of dream fragments whose storylines were difficult to recall in the morning. Vague notions, like swimming in the dark and feeling the cold stream around your toes, wondering what is just there.

I felt so disconnected with myself, and stopped even opening my dream journal. That is, until yesterday. All of a sudden the dream floodgates have re-opened, yeehaa!

I took a solid 45 minutes in the morning to gleefully write down the details. Then I took a little extra time and paged back through the last few entries before the darkness fell.

This is what I wrote, and I decided to share it here. Take from it whatever is useful to you in this moment.

Things I learned in 2016

  • that loons have solid bones
  • that the Michael and Mary lines intersect with the Albion at Trinity Church in Stratford-Upon-Avon
  • that love means different things to different people
  • that when people say they have no expectations, it might mean they actually do, but are actually afraid to utter them or might have trouble finding the words for them
  • that it is possible to experience love at first sight...with a sea turtle
  • that the best laid plans are actually a total illusion
  • that the ocean, the sun, the fire, the cold, the heat, the earth--are all powerful levelers
  • that spiders are my friends
  • that I enjoy spending time with animals equally as much, and perhaps sometimes more, as people
  • that I've had an adventure of a lifetime in this short/long life
  • that little things mean a lot and big things mean so little
