The 22 Secret Saboteurs to Your Joy – check out these baby doomers and how to turn them around

Have you heard this one?

“I bought my wife a new fridge for her birthday.?When she opens it I can't wait to see her face light up”

Well, it made me laugh anyway.?The primal tug of wanting to make life “right” via the next purchase is a consumer trap I willingly fling myself into.

Aren’t we all looking for something to make our face light up?

And yes for a few moments that peptide-enriched neck cream may hold a wisp of a promise of extended youth (eternal life?) then we slip back into our default modes of low level anxiety, frustration and dissatisfaction.

Let's look in the fridge for enlightenment if not a temporary mouth distraction.

?

The pursuit of happiness is like some computer game designed by John Lewis with traps and distractions jumping up in our path offering joy with their multi-headed lures but they prove to be false gods of glee.

Darn those Swedish shot glasses seemed such a good idea at the time!

?

The one thing many of us forget is that happiness is like oxygen it is always around it but we choose to turn away from it – happiness never turns away from us.

So how to keep the happiness tank topped up while keeping in credit with the bank and the psyche??First, it’s worth noting that which drains our joy funds.

Which of these contentment saboteurs can you relate to?

?

  1. Comparing yourself to others and reducing yourself as you see them as richer/younger/thinner/better looking/luckier than you.
  2. Always thinking what you really want is on its way at some point in the future.
  3. Waiting for the “right” time to start something.
  4. Wishing your partner, boss, friends or family would change.
  5. Waiting for “real life” to begin.
  6. Leaving the door open. Not fully committing to relationships or your calling.
  7. Blaming.
  8. Being in denial that you can do something.
  9. Not even noting when you ARE actually happy or not even knowing what makes you happy.
  10. It's the job's fault.
  11. Leaving your happiness to other people.
  12. Saying “that's just my luck” as if there is some sort of cosmic conspiracy against you.
  13. Keep expecting the Universe to deliver like an astral Amazon but you've no idea what you have ordered.
  14. Putting other people's lives and needs before your own.
  15. Thinking things were better in the past.
  16. Regretting things you did or didn't do.
  17. That “the best” is behind you.
  18. Ruminating on past hurts and grievances.
  19. Living with a pervasive sense of guilt even though you know you haven’t done anything wrong.
  20. Surfing social media and finding you feel envy, anger or even resentment at other people's happiness or success?
  21. Living at war with your body? Too fat, too old, unwanted lumps, rogue hair breakouts, sags, bags and other flappy things you see as unwanted squatters.
  22. Using “why bother?” as a get out clause.

?

These are just a few of the baby doomers that flood into our consciousness, sometimes under the carpet of our awareness.
