Our focus this week is on The Common Approach - An ARACY initiative.

The Common Approach

What is The Common Approach??

The Common Approach? - an ARACY initiative,? is a prevention-focused and flexible way of working to help everyone have quality conversations with young people and their families about all aspects of their wellbeing. These aspects fall into six wellbeing areas that align with? The Nest: Loved and Safe, Healthy, Participating, Positive Sense of Culture and Identity, Material Basics, and Learning.

It enables those working with children, young people, and families to work consistently in partnership with them, to focus on strengths, place the child at the centre of the conversation, and consider all aspects of a family’s circumstances.

The Common Approach is supported by a suite of resources that facilitates conversations with families by providing prompts and guidance for practitioners. It is not a standardised risk assessment tool, but rather a simple, versatile way of working that enables child-led and child-focused discussion across all areas of wellbeing.

The Common Approach Workshops

This week, Nicole Deen , ARACY's Lead for Capacity Building, had the pleasure of facilitating a workshop on The Common Approach - an ARACY initiative, with a group of school-based youth workers, social workers and psychologists in Goodna, in Brisbane’s west. Organised by the Queensland Department of Education , the day focused on putting the theory participants had learned in the online training modules into practice. Some early feedback from participants showed the value of participating in the workshop:

? 80% said the training was extremely relevant to the work they do

? 93% said it would enhance their work with young people significantly

? 100% said they would recommend the training to others

At ARACY, we are committed to continuous improvement, striving to provide the most effective resources and professional learning opportunities to empower those who support Australia's children and young people.

To ensure our programs remain relevant and impactful, we value your feedback and invite you to participate in a brief survey (less than 10 minutes) designed to gather insights into your learning needs and preferences.

Your participation will directly inform the development of future ARACY courses and resources. By sharing your experiences with past ARACY initiatives and professional learning events or ideas you have on what's needed, you will contribute significantly to shaping the future of how we support you in achieving the best outcomes for all young Australians.

As a token of our appreciation for your valuable time, upon completion of the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter a draw for a $100 donation to a registered Australian children's charity of your choice.

We encourage you to participate by:

  • Completing the brief survey by June 30th, 2024.
  • Sharing your insights to help us refine our offerings.
  • Knowing that your responses will be kept confidential and used solely for internal planning purposes.

Together, we can continue to build a robust and impactful support system for Australia's children and young people to thrive.
