Have you ever decided to participate in a 21 day challenge?
You know, the hard core commitment to make a change in your life! There are so many different types of transformation: eat healthier, commit to a new exercise routine, disconnect from technology, start a new career…all with good intensions and a focus on our wealth and wellbeing.
What about just simply “being kind to yourself?”
It is the last month of summer and a few colleagues and I have decided to embark on a 21 day challenge of being “kind to ourselves.” We are participating in the Oprah, Deepak Meditation series to learn how to manifest our desires, we will eat clean, walk every day and send each other positive quotes to encourage change.
Each one of us has a different purpose, waiting for the outcome to unfold; but we all agree ’being kind to ourselves” will contribute to a whole new outlook on life and enrich the journey through “self-love.”
Now, there is a lot of research to support the theory of being kind to yourself. I’m sure you’ve seen this quote: “To fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness.” Robert Morley It makes sense, if we don’t love ourselves first then we have nothing to give to others and no roadmap for our own happiness. It is the foundation for everything we build and the legacy we leave behind.
The conversation that led to the challenge was lively and for some controversial because it was shocking to realize how little we seem to do for ourselves. No excuse, we all live hectic, fast paced lives, but, “happiness” will soon become elusive if we don’t make a commitment to self-love.
We began to ask these questions: What makes you smile? When was the last time that you did absolutely nothing; and let the day unfold? Do you sleep in? Time at the gym? Visiting with friends? Read a book? Went on vacation? Had a nap?….
It wasn’t long before the direction of the conversation changed and we began to understand the power of being kind to ourselves. It fuels our passion, gives us energy and if we are open to the challenge, perhaps, it may even support a new outlook on life.
Sooooo, we have encouraged each other to “just be… for 21 days.”
Personally, I find myself in a state of transition, embarking on new challenges and looking for the signs and signals to let me know that I’m on the right track.
I have a few lofty goals in the coming year; write a sequel to my book Breaking Barriers, focus on becoming an international keynote speaker, AND continue to coach entrepreneurs on their next level of success through striking a balance between wealth and wellbeing and now…“love myself.”
The 21 days will conclude at the end of August; just in time for the fall season and my own personal new year.
I am truly going to take the rest of the summer, and enjoy life, giving myself permission to “just be…for 21 days.”
I’m sure my colleagues will do the same and I am looking forward to the outcome.
I have to ask: What is Your 21 day challenge?…
“Be the person who starts a ripple that creates a wave of change”
