#21: AI and the "NEW DYNAMIC EQUILIBIRIUM"

This week got the opportunity to be interviewed by Emmy Award winner newsroom legend Jeff Crilley on his "The Jeff Crilley Show" to delve into the multifaceted world of artificial intelligence.

Podcast version:

Here are some insights from our interesting conversation:

Upon my introduction, Jeff reminisced about his maiden experience with Chat GPT, expressing genuine amazement at its capabilities. It felt almost surreal to hear him share how the technology effortlessly drafted a best man's toast. His astonishment served as a poignant reminder of AI's immediate impact on our everyday lives.

As our conversation progressed, we touched upon the three distinct aspects of AI: the good, the bad, and the ugly. We explored concerns some users have expressed, notably the phenomenon of "hallucinations" in AI, a topic I've been keen to demystify for our community.

I emphasized the transformative role AI plays in our society.

This isn't about machines taking over; it's about giving human civilization a boost, a co-pilot for our daily endeavors.
Copilot! :-)

With AI's rich history and its principles dating back decades, it's heartening to see how contemporary computing power has finally met the aspirations of those early visions.

Our dialogue inevitably led us to the realm of bias in AI, a topic close to my heart.

AI models, as powerful as they are, mirror the information they're trained on.

This can sometimes include biased or skewed data, underscoring the importance of ethical AI development.

Addressing the elephant in the room, Jeff and I discussed AI's potential job implications. The narrative isn't black and white.

Rather than AI snatching away jobs, it's about those well-versed in AI having an advantage over those who aren't.

On a more philosophical note, I drew a parallel between the introduction of writing and the advent of AI.

Every technology reshapes our norms but doesn't necessarily diminish our essence.

For our younger readers contemplating a future in AI, I broke down three key roles in the industry: the Builders/Trainers, the Explainers, and the Sustainers.

There's a burgeoning universe of opportunities awaiting you, and I'm confident AI holds a promising future for all.

Concluding our chat, I reiterated my core belief:

AI is a supplement, not a replacement for human intelligence. It's a tool, and it's on us to wield it responsibly.

AI comes with its own sets of:

Opportunities and Challenges.

Fears and Cheers.

Unrealistic Pessimism and Unbridled Optimism.

But as always, Human Intelligence will figure out the right checks and balances. We always do.

Have done it with fire, writing, printing, weaving, ........transportation, aviation.......antibiotics, dynamite.......nuclear power.......

and will do so with AI too and whatever comes next.

Thanks Jeff Crilley for hosting me and facilitating such a profound discussion.

I had shared the video with my 82 year old father (Thanks Papa!) and his profound remarks sum it up well:

Great optimistic message for AI. Yes, it is TRUE for every new Innovation. Humans will adapt and ofcourse, world would move to a new dynamic equilibrium. This in turn could be affected by further new Innovation. This is the DESTINY.

Why Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan in title picture?

The year was 2013. My then employer Xerox was celebrating its 75th anniversary and had solicited ideas from its employees about what the "Next 75" would bring. One of my submissions (I had a few ??) was about the ability for people to appear in their favorite movies as the character they pick (Think of yourself instead of Tom Cruise playing Maverick in Top Gun).

Fast Forward to 2023. Just a decade later. What I spoke about then is no longer a pipe dream. A future NBA app feature lets fans virtually replace a player in a live game

And just out this week, in its new market campaign, ITC's Sunfeast Dark Fantasy is leveraging tech to give consumers a first of a kind experience to become the Co-star with Shahrukh Khan.

Give a try and create your fantasy, experience how technology can truly bring alive a brand idea.

From Bollywood let's move to Hollywood

Tom Hanks says AI version of him used in dental plan ad without his consent. Actor, who has previously expressed concerns about use of AI in film, tells fans ‘I have nothing to do’ with hoax video

Read in The Guardian:

And AI featured in a prime role in the new labor agreement scripted by Hollywood writers:

The contract states that AI cannot be used to compose or modify scripts or treatments. It mandates that studios reveal if they present writers with AI-produced content and prevents using writers' works to train AI without their consent. However, writers are allowed to utilize AI personally. Given the concerns over AI taking over jobs in various sectors, the WGA's latest contract could set a precedent, impacting not only Hollywood, where an actors' strike is ongoing, but also other industries globally.

“In this contract, we have done what no other union could,” August says. “For the first time, we have put enforceable definitions and limits on the use of AI. That's going to have a huge impact on writers' daily lives.”
