The Celo Foundation Aims to Bring $20B in Impact Investing Funds to Web3 by 2025
- The U.S.-based Celo Foundation announced the launch of its “2% for Web3 Impact” pledge at the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) Investor Forum in The Hague. An industry-wide initiative incubated within the Foundation’s Social Impact Collective, the pledge is kicking off by actively helping onboard 100+ impact investors to Web3 and make their first investment in the space or provide liquidity, for example, to impact lending protocols.
- The GIIN Investor Forum, where Celo Foundation President and Co-Founder Rene Reinsberg spoke of Web3’s potential to solve mass-coordination problems, is the largest in-person global gathering of over 1,200 attendees from 60+ countries with a goal to advance and scale the global impact investing market.
Japanese Gaming Giant Konami to Launch Web3 and Metaverse Initiative [Via Cryptonews]
- Japanese video game giant Konami has announced plans to launch a marketplace for trading in-game NFTs, as well as a "wide range" of other Web3-related products and services.?
- The entertainment conglomerate also unveiled that it is looking to add new talent and will recruit a “wide range of talent for system construction and service development to provide new experiences such as Web3 and Metaverse,” Konami said.
Former Google ads boss launches ‘Web3’ search startup with backing from Coinbase
- Sridhar Ramaswamy, who led the internet giant’s ad business from 2013 to 2018, has started a new company called ‘nxyz’, which trawls blockchains and associated applications for sought-after data on things like how much someone holds in their crypto wallet, or what NFTs they’re buying. The company raised $40 million in a funding round led by crypto-focused venture fund Paradigm, with additional backing from Coinbase, Sequoia and Greylock.?

- The camera filter, created with the Red Cross charity, will guide users through performing chest compressions and quiz them on what they have learned. Snapchat users can find the feature within the Lenses section of their app.
Mark Zuckerberg reveals new Quest Pro VR headset [Via BBC]
- With a price tag of $1,499, Quest Pro is almost four times the price of Meta's current headset, the Quest 2, which starts at $399.
- It boasts thinner lenses, a curved battery around the head strap at the back, and controllers which self-track. The headset also allows users to see their real environment around the periphery of the screen.
Secrets of dust shells surrounding WR 140 stars seen by James Webb Space Telescope revealed [Via ABC]
- Two new studies reveal the secrets of this eerily beautiful system, known as WR 140. Initially, scientists had anticipated the stars would be surrounded by a single dust shell. But the JWST observations, detailed today in the journal Nature Astronomy, revealed more than 17 shells nested inside each other.
