The UK government has initiated a consultation titled "Phasing out sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 and supporting the ZEV transition," seeking feedback on proposals to end the sale of new internal combustion engine cars by 2030 and facilitate the transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The consultation is open until 11:59 pm on 18 February 2025.
At the IFC Group, we have observed that many of our fleet customers are actively discussing the implications of this proposed phase-out. The transition to ZEVs presents both opportunities and challenges for fleet operators, including considerations around vehicle acquisition strategies, infrastructure investments, and operational adjustments.
We strongly recommend that fleet operators participate in this consultation to ensure that their perspectives and concerns are considered in the policy-making process. Engaging in the consultation provides an opportunity to influence the development of supportive measures and frameworks that will facilitate a smooth transition to ZEVs.
The consultation is divided into two parts:

Fleet operators can respond to the consultation by completing the response form available on the government's website and submitting it via email to [email protected] or by post to the ZEV regulations team at the Department for Transport.
Participating in this consultation is a crucial step for fleet operators to proactively engage with upcoming regulatory changes and to contribute to shaping a sustainable and practical path toward zero-emission transportation.

We encourage all stakeholders to review the proposals thoroughly and submit their responses before the deadline on 18 February 2025.
