There’s something about being surrounded by wilderness that clears the mind and sparks big ideas. My ‘happy place’—where the beauty is indescribable—allows me to reflect, consider and challenge the status quo. We continue to work tirelessly to connect healthcare data making them accessible to clinicians and consumers alike. It’s a journey worth celebrating, but let’s face it, we’ve been at this for a while. What’s holding us back?

I’m lucky to work alongside digital health visionaries driving Australia’s healthcare transformation. The Agency is on a mission to modernize My Health Record, build a nationwide Health Information Exchange (HIE), and rollout the my health app—a true digital front door to healthcare.

e-prescriptions and emergency contact tools will be at your fingertips, thanks to new legislation, diagnostic results will flow directly to patients. No delays, no barriers—just empowerment.

But we can’t stop there. Wearable health data integration is next, powered by FHIR standards.

However, there’s still so much paper. Tests are repeated, data gaps persist, and research potential is missed because key information isn’t digitized. We’ve made incredible strides, but 2025 has to be the year we tackle this head-on. Time to digitise the paper trail, close the gaps, and unlock the full potential of healthcare data.

Peter O'Halloran recently said in an interview "this isn’t just about tech—it’s about trust, compassion, and creating a seamless experience for every Australian", we know that is true. Im keen to make 2025 the year the Global Health world notices the extraordinary work we’ve done—and finish what we started.
