2025 SEO Trends: what's next in the world of search?

Throughout 2024 the SEO scene has taken some dramatic turns, some of which I've been shared with you here.
So, without a doubt, of the thousand trends for 2025 that are coming out about the digital world, the SEO trends were the ones I was most looking forward to... And it wasn't anything I wasn't expecting. ??

DRAMA!
Let's imagine this: Google, the king of search, is forced to share its gold – data and algorithms – with competitors. This could happen if the antitrust trials don’t go in Google’s favour.??
The result? A buffet of new search engines, each adding its own unique flavour to the mix. SEO specialists will have to manage not one, but potentially dozens of strategies. ????
On the plus side, we can finally peek behind Google’s curtain. Ranking factors, information on user behaviour. It could be an SEO dream come true! ??
But (and it’s a big ‘but’), this also means manipulating the algorithms will be easier and may bring us back to the dark days of SEO.???
For now, the verdict is still pending, with updates expected by the end of 2025. Stay tuned, with the popcorns!?

Let's be honest, AI is both brilliant and scary. It speeds up workflows, processes data and creates ideas. But here’s the problem: relying too heavily on AI can make your content look like everyone else’s. And SEO is all about originality and quality, so don’t let AI hold your creativity!?
Maybe this is why Google has pushed so hard for the new 'E' in E-E-A-T, putting the experience in focus. AI tools are great assistants, but they can’t replicate the instinct, experience or intuition of an SEO professional.??

We’ve already seen that Google’s latest obsession, E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness), isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s getting louder.??
Google wants content that feels human – authentic, relatable and based on real expertise. For 2025, this means prioritising originality in every aspect of your content.
An interesting leak from Google mentions an ‘OriginalContentScore’. Translation? Google loves new ideas. So, make your team’s expertise shine and include human experiences in your content!?

Keywords? They’re still important. But in 2025, search is all about intent. Users are asking longer and more complex questions, and search engines reward content that provides clear, useful answers.??
Abandon the old tactic of ‘putting keywords everywhere’. Instead, think about your user’s pain points and solve their problems, offer information and prioritise value over volume!
