2025 Predictions: AI, Quantum Computing, and Digital Identity
Hot Content
This Month
As the year draws to a close it’s natural to reflect on the year that’s passed and gaze into our crystal ball to make some predictions about what’s to come.?
Will AI move beyond all the hype or will its increasing use by both sides – cybercriminals and the security professionals trying to thwart them – devolve into a cyber arms race? Will PQ prototypes and preparations finally accelerate to action and production? Will divergent regulatory approaches – especially between the EU and U.S. – start to converge? Will the use of AI-powered biometrics help the good guys stay ahead of cybercriminals or present new threats to keeping digital identities secure?
This month we ask our subject matter experts to take stock of 2024 and look ahead to 2025 and predict the trends and events that will shape the cybersecurity landscape over the next 12 months.

Podcast Episode: The Year Ahead in Cyber – AI, Quantum Computing, Identity, and so Much More
No doubt, 2024 was a pivotal year in cybersecurity, characterized by generative AI, digital identity, an increasingly complex and fragmented regulatory landscape, and the release of the first post-quantum cryptography standards from NIST.
On the cyberthreat front, things continued to intensify, driven by GenAI, cybercrime-as-a-service delivery models, and nation-state attackers. Already estimated at $9.5T and likened to the world’s third-largest economy by Bank of America, cybercrime is big business for bad actors. So what does the future hold?
To delve into our top cyber predictions for 2025 that foresee the future of cybersecurity – including the evolution and associated impact of AI, quantum computing, digital identity, and regulation – we turn to podcast regulars Jordan Avnaim, Entrust CISO, and Rishi Kaushal, Entrust CIO, joined by Michael Klieman, Vice President of Global Product Management, Digital Security Solutions, in this podcast episode.

Blog Post: 2024 Cyber Retrospective – Generative AI and Digital Identity Take Center Stage
As well as looking forward into the new year, it’s also a good time to reflect on what the last year has brought us and take stock of what happened that we expected, and the things that were apt to blindside us at 4 pm on some idle Tuesday.
To take us through what actually happened in 2024 versus what we thought would happen, Jenn Markey, Advisor for the Entrust Cybersecurity Institute, examines how GenAI, digital and decentralized identity, supply chains, the regulatory landscape, quantum computing, evolving criminals, nation states, and more all shaped the year, in her latest blog post.

As we reflect on the biggest trends of 2024, we revisit our conversation with Pete Kaulbach, VP, Global Digital First at Mastercard, from last fall. He talks with Mike Baxter, Entrust Senior VP of Product Development, about how the banking industry is adapting and evolving to meet the needs of customers and protect their assets with the rise of AI technologies.
And finally, the end of the year is also a great time to give thanks, and we’d like to thank each and every one of our readers for their support as we’ve grown the Entrust Cybersecurity Institute this year. Thanks also to our cadre of subject matter experts who have taken time out of their busy schedules to offer their valuable insights and opinions on a wide range of topics impacting the information security landscape through our podcast, blog, videos, and reports. We look forward to tackling new issues, from voices old and new, in 2025.
