2025 is a Perfect Time to Quit Filmmaking!
The alarm bells are ringing—what once seemed like a viable career path for filmmakers is disappearing. Studios are slashing productions, Netflix is cutting its slate by nearly half, and international film incentives are outpacing anything the U.S. has to offer. Meanwhile, budgets keep shrinking. Is film even culturally relevant anymore? It’s been demystified. It’s everywhere, yet nowhere.
Every year, it gets harder for actors, directors, producers, crew, and screenwriters to pay their bills. From Hollywood to truly independent filmmakers, we’re all feeling the financial squeeze. If you’re not already making a living in film, don’t quit your day job. Save up. Make your own shorts. Build something sustainable before taking the leap.
The saving grace? You can make a film for less than ever before. But if you want to survive, you must think like a producer—everyone does. That means learning financing, distribution, and how to turn your film into a business.
If you’ve ever thought about becoming a filmmaker, don’t—unless you’re ready to go all in. The financial burden is brutal. The competition is ruthless. The industry is shifting under our feet.
But for those of us who refuse to quit? We adjust. We find new ways. And if you're serious about making a real push, hit me up. Let’s talk. [email protected]?

1 周F#$K the industry, create for you. Its been broken since 2000. Their are plenty of avenues for income. Stop letting people hold your hand. Learn all and profit from it.

2 周The moment I realized who they were choosing to fill the internships while going to 2 film schools, nepotism is alive and well. The GI Bill lost its purpose as the job market is over saturated and the Boomers are not retiring sooner (since life expectancy has increased over the years) without sitting on jobs that take the most salary/budget from a company but they have no idea how to use zoom STILL Yes it is easier than ever to make something in your back yard, but after a while it can become an expensive hobby versus a business. Sundance isn’t what it used to be. After going to the Austin Film Festival Writing Conference last year (different than SXSW), I have hope for independent voices getting out there but hold your breath if you don’t have a grant or do not have a solid backing if you are serious

2 周There are alot of Gatekeepers in this industry who are refusing to accept the ways they know are broken and passe'. I think this is why the indie movement is building their own industry. It's a hard pill to swallow, which is why the LA film industry is struggling.
