Prevent Deformation and Shrink Lines in Metal 3DP Components?

When designing components produced through layer-by-layer melting, bridge building and shrinkage stresses can lead to deformation in the form of visible shrink lines. This effect can worsen when the "bridge pillars" offer unequal stiffnesses.??

To mitigate these issues, consider integrating stiffening ribs as spacers, ensuring they are appropriately designed to avoid simply shifting the problem to another height. Additionally, allow cross-sections to grow together gradually over multiple layers to prevent abrupt large connections. These strategies help maintain consistent wall thicknesses, reduce visible defects, and minimize stress concentrations, ensuring a more reliable and visually appealing final product.?
