2025 Cyber Market Predictions

2025 Cyber Market Predictions

It’s that time of the year where I pull out my crystal ball and put some predictions to paper. I’d hope with my overall time in the Sydney recruitment market I get a couple of these correct but I’ve been wrong in the past….

A few predictions I made that came true:

  • 2022 - Microsoft becoming a serious vendor in cyber
  • 2022 - Big Retention Challenges incoming
  • 2022 - Boutique consultancies popping up and winning work
  • 2023 - GRC becomes a very competitive space fuelled by CPS234/230 uplift
  • 2024 - Remote work on the way out (sorry I was correct on this)
  • 2024 - This will remain an employers market

Some I got incorrect

  • 2021-2025 – this is the year AppSec takes off….one of these days it will happen
  • 2022 – Salaries to hit parity between states – partially correct but this has now shifted back to pre-covid trends. Melbourne slightly lower than Sydney, Brisbane slightly lower than Melbourne.
  • 2023 & 2024 – Board interest driving cyber budgets – I’d argue the reverse is happening with budgets flattening. This is while vendor pricing is increasing, effectively budgets are moving backwards.

2025 predictions (in no particular order)

  • Hiring becomes very competitive again, I'm not expecting the post covid boom again
  • However the needle will shift back to a candidate led market
  • Demand for contractors returns - after a few light years, we are seeing this improving
  • Hardest places to hire - IAM/PAM, Incident Response, GRC and Cloud Security
  • AI hype dies down…
  • BUT we begin seeing roles focused on AI security (haven’t seen it be a big focus of roles as yet)
  • Leadership hires remain exceptionally competitive
  • We typically see 200+ applications for these roles ($200k base and above)
  • Entry level remains rare (this one really sucks to write)

On the whole I’m quite bullish on how 2025 will be from a market perspective, this weeks inflation numbers hopefully help improve consumer confidence.

As always, please reach out to myself or anyone from the team to discuss any market trends, salary data points or insights in general.
