2025 Colour of the Year and Other Trends to Look Forward To

Out with the old and in with the new. With each new year comes a new set of design trends to get excited about. 2025 is all about bold colours, personalized spaces, and cozier, warmer interiors. And the 2025 colours of the year are anything but boring. While 2024 was dominated by more neutral tones, 2025 promises an earthier palette, with richer, deeper colours. Overall, you can expect a return to more unique, individualized spaces and old world charm. We’re letting you in on some of the biggest home trends for next year, plus how to implement them.

1. Colours of the Year

The 2025 colours of the year have started to roll in and there’s a lot to love. Valspar has chosen Encore, a deep, rich blue, as its colour of the year. Sherwin Williams has announced nine colors as part of their 2025 Colour of the Year Capsule. While the brand usually announces a single shade, for their 15h anniversary of announcing colour of the year, they opted for nine of their most popular colours. The capsule includes pops of colour and timeless neutrals that can all be used together. Other notable shades are Rumours by Behr, a gorgeous ruby red; Purple Basil by Glidden, a deep moody plum; and Caramelized by Dunn Edwards, a rich warm toffee tone.

2. Old World Cozy Vibes

Homeowners are craving cozier, warmer spaces for 2025. Think: plush sofas, reading nooks, and layered spaces that feel as though they’ve been added to over time. There’s also a movement toward old world charm, with a growing interest in floral patterns, antique furniture, and tapestries. Home libraries are also on the rise. Not only does coziness go for decorating, but home buyers are also on the hunt for snugger spaces. Many are trading open floor plans for a separate kitchen, living room, and dining room to make each space feel cozier.

3. Earthy Tones vs. Bold Colours?

Getting back to colour, subtle earth tones, as well as bolder shades, will reign supreme in 2025. Try mixing earth tones like chocolatey browns, mossy greens, and deep rusts with softer neutrals for a moody, grounded feel. And play around with shades like sage and terracotta in bathrooms and bedrooms for a calm, zen-like appeal. If you’re more into bold, colourful spaces, you’ll be happy to hear that maximalism is here to stay. Along with a bolder colour palette, homeowners are asking for dramatic prints, contrasting patterns, and rich textures to bring life back into their rooms.

4. Rounded Elements

Get ready to see an influx of rounded elements throughout the home. Think: curved couches, mirrors, headboards, and chairs, as well as circular dining and coffee tables. Arches are also having a moment. They bring character and charm to a home and can be found in cabinets, walkways and doorways, windows, and alcoves. Adding these rounded elements brings softness and coziness to any space.

5. Personalized Touches?

From the living room to the bedroom to the kitchen and dining room, one of the biggest trends for 2025 will be personalized spaces. Homeowners want homes that tell their story and embrace unique pieces. Get ready to see less overly stylized spaces, and ones that are layered, mix vintage and newer pieces, and have lots of textures and patterns. We’ll see the return of individuality in design and a move away from the cookie-cutter, all-neutral interiors.

These are 5 of the top design trends to look forward to in 2025. Which ones are you most excited about?
