The 2025 Challenge

The 2025 Challenge

How does it feel to know that people assume that we will fail to fulfil our new year resolutions - and then make profit when we do?

Some industries bank on our failures- for example, fitness centres sell yearlong contracts, knowing well that people may drop off after a few initial weeks. This is a huge reminder at this time of the year, to the fact that, when it comes to achieving our goals, many of us start out strong and make huge strides- then we get derailed and fall short of our hopes.

People have been making New Year Resolutions since forever- but hashtags like #resolutionfail start trending into social media hours into the new year!

The fresh goals made with such confidence just a few hours ago start to fade, lost to the hustle of life, the temptation of old habits, and the comfort of inertia highlights an important truth: leadership is not about perfection, but about resilience, adaptability, and learning from setbacks.

This is akin to the idea of setting a vision, executing strategies, and encountering unforeseen obstacles. The true measure of leadership excellence is not in never failing, but in how we manage those failures. Leaders who embrace failure as a learning opportunity, rather than a defeat, are more likely to inspire and maintain trust in their teams.

Leaders, both in personal lives and organizations, often make ambitious plans or set high expectations. However, the key to true leadership excellence is how one responds when things don’t go as planned—how quickly they adapt, learn, and course-correct.

Moreover, the shift towards #resolutionprogress alongside #resolutionfail is indicative of a growth mindset—a key trait of exceptional leadership.

Leaders who recognize the importance of small wins, rather than solely focusing on grand achievements, foster a culture of continuous improvement. They understand that progress, no matter how incremental, is still progress. This perspective encourages resilience and determination in both leaders and their teams.
