2024: A Year of Growth, Impact, and Gratitude

As I sit down to reflect on 2024, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey this year has been. It has been a year of growth, transitions, and profound moments of impact—not just for me, but for the incredible people and communities I’ve had the privilege to walk alongside.

Stepping Into Big Shoes at BDO

One of the most significant milestones this year was stepping into the role of Head of Business Restructuring Services (BRS) at BDO South Africa. Taking over from Hans Klopper, who led the division for over 30 years with exceptional vision and dedication, was both humbling and inspiring. Hans’ legacy has set a high standard, and as I took on the responsibility, I was reminded of the importance of leadership that serves with purpose.

The BRS division is not just about helping businesses survive; it’s about giving companies a second chance, supporting their people, and helping them regain stability. Leading this team has reaffirmed my belief in the power of collaboration, resilience, and the human spirit. To Hans, thank you for paving the way so beautifully. And to my team at BRS, thank you for trusting me as we continue this journey together.

Transitioning Leadership at AWCA

2024 also marked the end of my term as President of the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA). Passing the reins to Pumla Molope was a deeply emotional and full-circle moment for me. Leadership is about creating opportunities for others to rise, and I know Pumla will take AWCA to even greater heights. Together, we’ve achieved so much, from nurturing future leaders to launching programs that will leave a lasting legacy. Watching her step into this role reminded me that leadership is about continuity, not permanence.

Shifting Priorities in Corporate Governance

This year, I also made the intentional decision not to put my hand up for re-election on some of the listed boards I serve on. It was a thoughtful choice, reflecting my commitment to focusing my energy on initiatives that align most closely with my values and purpose. Stepping back from certain responsibilities allows me to give more attention to the areas where I can make the greatest impact.

Entrepreneurial Growth with Myoli Products

Stepping into a new chapter this year also meant rediscovering parts of myself that often take a backseat. My entrepreneurial journey with Myoli Products continued to flourish, and every candle sold, every diffuser sent out, felt like a small but meaningful step toward creating something purposeful and beautiful. It reminded me that passion, when pursued intentionally, creates ripples of impact far beyond what we envision.

The People Who Made 2024 Special

This year has been a testament to the power of community. To my AWCA sisters, who believed in me and supported me throughout my tenure, thank you for trusting me to lead. To my colleagues at BDO South Africa, who inspire me daily with their resilience and ingenuity, your commitment to excellence has been a constant source of motivation.

To my friends and family—your unwavering support has been my anchor. And to my daughter, watching you grow and thrive gives me the clarity I need to keep showing up as the best version of myself. You remind me daily of the legacy I want to leave behind.

Gratitude for the Small Moments

As much as I celebrate the big milestones, it’s the small moments that stand out. A heartfelt message from a mentee who overcame a challenge. The laughter shared with colleagues after a long day.
