Why 2024 is the year for Generational Shift in your workplace

Why 2024 is the year for Generational Shift in your workplace

By next year, the number of Gen Z working full-time will likely overtake the number of Baby Boomers holding full-time positions for the first time.

Boomers have been the largest generation in full time employment since the late 1970's until late 2011, but this is about to change.

The effect of this shift in demographic will have a huge impact on the way that employers attract and retain young talent, as their view on culture in the workplace and life priorities can vary greatly from their older colleagues.

" Gen Z have a high interest in transparency and diversity, equity, and inclusion at the companies where they work. They are digital natives and want to be heard by their employers. Companies will inevitably tailor their culture and their benefits to the types of workers that they are trying to attract and trying to retain" - Aaron Terrazas, Glassdoor

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/future-looks-woke-as-junior-lawyers-speak-up-wsfplpg0c "The Times?looks at how junior lawyers now want “values” from City law firms. In a report published earlier month, 75% of junior lawyers surveyed said that they would "not join an organisation whose values did not match with their own, even if they were offering more money." Meanwhile, 10% said that they were "looking to effect positive change in society" through their work as lawyers and 65% of junior lawyer respondents said that their employers "should allow them to refuse to work on certain matters for ethical reasons." One associate at a City firm described City law firm cultures as "so toxic." The female lawyer went on to ask: "Why can't the mindset be 'I worked under terrible working conditions so you don't have to?'" The researchers added that respondents were frustrated at the "slow pace of cultural change, insisting that it could not wait until they were in the leadership positions to effect it." The report’s authors also found junior lawyers broadly criticised their employers for paying "lip service" to ESG, or environment, social and governance." Posted by the times today.
