Gallup 's recent State of the Global Workplace report revealed that while employee engagement has been rising worldwide, worker stress has remained at record-high levels since the pandemic, especially in the US and Canada.
Consistently high stress levels negatively impact both professional and personal wellbeing and can contribute to mental and physical health concerns.
On the other hand, while employee engagement levels in the US began increasing slowly in 2023, there was a decrease in employees' sense of connection to their organization's mission and purpose.
So which trend will win out in 2024 - the ongoing rise in stress or the improvement in employee engagement?
In her brilliant LinkedIn post today, Karen Zeigler shared 7 reasons why your organizational vision may not resonate with your employees.
She cites a failure to "recognize and meet the current needs of employees" as one of the main problems.
What are your employees' current needs?
According to Forbes , "Ongoing Support For Mental Well-Being And Preventing Burnout" is a top priority.
The 13th annual Aflac WorkForces Report was released in October 2023 and featured responses from more than 1,200 employers and 2,000 employees in various industries.
It revealed that:
?? More than half of US workers (57%) are experiencing "at least" moderate burnout, often made worse by stress in the workplace, and
?? Less than half (48%) believe that their employer cares about their mental health needs. This is down from 60% in 2021 and 56% in 2022.
To reduce stress levels and burnout while improving engagement and a sense of connection, leaders must prioritize employee wellbeing.
