2024 Website Guide: Finding What's Right For You

I get asked this a lot. ??

"Well, which kind of website works best for my situation? Can I just try a hand at one making one myself?"

And the answer just might surprise you.

I do recommend DIY builders for a lot of businesses. Getting online is the first step to creating a marketing strategy that will grow your business.

But I'll only recommend it if it's right for where you are at, and you have the technical knowhow and time budget to do so. Some DIY options are a big bite... and one you may not have been prepared to take.

Most business owners become part-time web developers because they committed to a website that they aren't quite sure how to manage. And it's stressful. So It's important to at least be aware of your options on this front. And luckily... there are options.

Here are the three main options for finding your ideal website marketing solution, and how to make it worth the most for you .

#1: Just DIY!

?? expect to pay: 0-120/mo

DIY website builders like Squarespace, Wix, and GoDaddy allow you to create your own website, but you’ll need some technical know-how and some time to set everything up. Since you’re managing your own site, you’ll need to spend time maintaining it too. However, there are a bunch of reasons a DIY website builder might be right for you:

  • Extensive template libraries with industry-specific designs make it easy to create a professional-looking website without starting from scratch.
  • Drag-and-drop editors allow for simple customization, even for those without coding experience.
  • Built-in responsive design ensures your website looks great on mobile devices.
  • Integrated e-commerce functionality enables you to start selling products or services online quickly.
  • Free SSL certificates provide secure browsing for your visitors.
  • 24/7 customer support is available to help you whenever you need assistance.

If you want to create a more customized and detailed website, Webflow is a great tool, but will take quite a while to gain proficiency in.

#2: Design/Marketing Agency

?? expect to pay: 5,000+ 200-500/mo

If you’re less on the technical side or want a site made by a professional, a web design agency may be right for you. A custom website design tailored to your brand ensures your online presence is unique and memorable, but can be significantly more expensive.

  • Experienced professionals with diverse skill sets bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to your project.
  • Comprehensive services, including SEO, content creation, and marketing, provide a one-stop-shop for all your digital needs.
  • Dedicated project managers streamline communication and keep your project on track.
  • In-depth industry knowledge and market research help position your business for success in your specific niche.

Web design agencies will deliver a better end product than a DIY site-builder, but can come with an upfront cost of thousands of dollars.

Especially if you are just a startup and budget-conscious... it might be best to explore other options

#3: Freelancers

?? expect to pay: ~2,000+ deposit, plus retainer (for a good one ??)

Freelancers could be a good option depending on how you like to delegate and how much access you would like to the design process a whole. Finding a good freelancer can be tough, but a good one is worth their weight in gold. They are responsive, energizing to work with, and be your true advocate for making a website that is effective for your stage of business, they will not be upselling you or be in your pockets, which can be the case with some agencies.

After having experience with all of these, the best response I have gotten from clients is to find something that takes the positives from each option.

#4: Creative Alternatives

?? The True Value

At MMG Design, I like to operate on a no-upfront-cost website commitment to eliminate the pain of what agencies charge and only address your investment after you experience how stress-relieving an effective, beautiful website is for your business and quality of life.

I've called this the "Solo Agency" model, and it allows the features of an agency website, the flexibility of a freelancer, avoids the headaches of a DIY mess, and comes at a price that meets you at the true value. (For the exact pricing, refer to our web membership program ??)

If you or someone you love is in the market for the best of both options and likes being blown away by amazing service and great design for no upfront financial commitment, then sharing this email with them is a great way to spread the love!

Also, I want to help YOU. Are there any referrals I can make for you?
