Seymour Unicorn – Coin Design
The reverse side of the coin, designed by David Lawrence, depicts the Unicorn of the House of Jane Seymour. This design not only looks stunning, but it also has a chain mail surface animation background texture providing additional security. The obverse side of the coin has Martin Jennings’ official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
Seymour Unicorn – History
Henry VIII presented Jane Seymour with the Seymour Unicorn, a symbol of purity and fertility. It wears a royal coronet and is decked with daisies and roses, distinguishing it from the Unicorn of Scotland. It has a horse’s body, lion’s tail, goat’s hooves and beard, and a spiralled horn. The Unicorn wears a gold collar and chain and is adorned with a 6-quartered shield of the Seymour family, indicating the taming of a wild beast.
