For the past 10 years, we've been tracking the daily soccer broadcasts on TV and piecing together a recap to kick off the following year. Let's dive into 2024!
There were nearly 3,000 games on TV, averaging out to eight games a day. Although the number of games decreased slightly year-over-year, the trend of year-over-year increases in total teams and competitions featured continued in 2024. In fact, those metrics are up 53% and 38%, respectively, since 2020.

???U.S. Soccer adds Official Bank Partner
U.S. Soccer and Bank of America announced a new, long-term partnership which makes the financial institution the first Official Bank Partner of the Federation and its 27 National Teams. Bank of America will also be a Founding Level Partner of U.S. Soccer's new?training center in Atlanta. The partnership will also introduce SheInvests, a program that?will compliment U.S. Soccer's SheBelieves platform and help investors interested in learning more about financial planning and investment strategies.
???Federation also reiterates intent to bid for 2031?World Cup
At the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago, U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone reiterated the Federation's commitment to bringing the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup to the U.S. and Mexico. The two countries had previously bid for the 2027 tournament, but withdrew after acknowledging they wouldn't have been able to promote the event properly given its close proximity to the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup.?FIFA has not yet opened the bidding process or outlined when the 2031 tournament will be awarded.
?? NWSL commissioner honored by Sports Illustrated
Jessica Berman, league commissioner since 2022, was named the 2024 Innovator of the Year by the publication. During her tenure, the NWSL has built tremendous momentum through expansion, a landmark media deal, and new highs in attendance, viewership, sponsorship revenue, and more. The league's newest Collective Bargaining Agreement—signed in Q3 2024, two years before the previous CBA expired—also affords all players the right to, among things, require consent prior to being traded.
??? Program gives players insight into media careers
The Athletic discussed Player Plus: Media Academy—a professional development program for current and active soccer players interested in exploring a post-playing career in broadcast media. The program, which just had its inaugural class, was organized by the U.S. Women's National Team Players Association. Participants received a crash course in broadcast media with insight into sideline reporting, play-by-play analysis, color commentary, studio work, and more.
