2024 Reflections - Strength in Challenges, Unity in Action

As we close the chapter on 2024, I find myself reflecting not just on what we’ve achieved together at Serco , but on the resilience, humanity, and courage that have shaped this year. For many of us, myself included, the journey has not been without its challenges. Living the expat life—far from familiar faces, comforts, and routines—often tests our mental strength in ways we don’t always anticipate. Yet, through this shared experience, we’ve found connection and strength.

Workshops That Went Beyond the Surface

This year, our workshops became more than just professional development—they became spaces for healing, growth, and understanding:

  • Mental Health Awareness: These sessions were personal for me, and I know they resonated deeply with many of you. Together, we explored ways to manage the weight of isolation, the pressure to perform, and the quiet battles we don’t always speak of.
  • Celebrating Diversity: Coming from so many backgrounds and cultures, we learned how to lean on our differences as strengths, creating a community where everyone feels seen and valued.
  • Leadership Through Empathy: We focused on not just leading teams, but caring for them, knowing that great leadership starts with understanding the human side of work.

Speaking Events That Opened Hearts and Minds

Whether standing on stage or sitting in a circle of colleagues, I witnessed the power of shared stories this year:

  • Stories of overcoming personal struggles while navigating the complexities of life and work.
  • Stories that reminded us we are more than just roles or job titles—we are individuals with dreams, fears, and immense potential.
  • Stories that inspired action, be it in innovation, sustainability, or simply taking better care of ourselves and each other.

Open Communication: A Lifeline for Us All

In a world that often feels transient for expatriates, communication has been our lifeline:

  • Through Serco Shout Outs, we reminded each other of the impact of kindness and recognition, one small message at a time.
  • Team check-ins became a space to truly ask, “How are you doing?”—and mean it.
  • Honest conversations bridged the gap between our white- and blue-collar colleagues, fostering a culture where every voice matters.

A Personal Reflection

This year wasn’t always easy, and there were moments when the challenges felt overwhelming. But it was in those moments that I saw the best of us. I saw how we supported each other through tough days, celebrated the small wins, and found joy in our shared purpose.

For me, this journey has been deeply personal. I know what it’s like to carry the weight of mental health challenges, to feel the strain of being away from home, and to push forward even when it feels impossible. But I also know that I am not alone in this, and neither are you.

Looking to 2025

I hope all of us can carry these lessons forward—of compassion, understanding, and resilience. I encourage you to continue to build a workplace where every individual feels valued, supported, and connected, no matter where they come from or where they’re headed.

Thank you for walking this journey with me.

For your openness, your strength, and your heart.

Here’s to another year of lifting each other up and making

#Serco not just a workplace, but a community.
