2024 Post Show Review Press Release
Thousands inspired by latest engineering innovations?- A round-up of Advanced Engineering 2024
On October 30 and 31, 2024, over 9,800 engineering and manufacturing professionals flocked to the NEC, Birmingham, to attend the 15th edition of Advanced Engineering. Across the two days, visitors witnessed the very latest that the industry had to offer, with over 400 exhibitors showcasing their innovations.
Some key highlights from the press release:
UK sets out ambitious new climate target at COP29
The UK has used the COP29 conference in Baku to pledge an 81 per cent emissions reduction by 2035, in an attempt to restore the country’s status as a climate leader.
Part of the UK’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) that must be published by countries under the COP process, the 81 per cent figure is measured against 1990 emissions levels. The government claims the target is in line with the recommendation of the UK’s independent Climate Change Committee and the country's share of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, although it excludes emissions from aviation and shipping. ?
By committing to a national target compatible with the 1.5°C figure set out in the Paris Agreement, the UK is strengthening its hand at the COP29 talks, where it hopes to encourage other countries to bolster their own climate action.
Worldwide, emissions need to fall by 43 per cent by 2030 to stay on course with the Paris target. However, global emissions are still rising, with the most optimistic NDC scenario leading to around a 5.9 per cent cut by 2030.
GKN Aerospace deliver C-27J nacelles to Leonardo
GKN Aerospace has delivered the first two C-27J nacelles to Leonardo Aircraft since 2018, marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of its supply chain and production capabilities.
This achievement highlights GKN Aerospace’s support of the C-27J platform and reaffirms its commitment to the long-term in-service support of the aircraft. The first nacelle was delivered in September, followed by the second nacelle in October, aligning with Leonardo’s milestone to commence test flights and certification before year-end.
The accomplishment reflects the successful engagement of over 40 suppliers, the re-establishment of complex composite and assembly manufacturing capabilities and the securing of business continuity for the C-27J nacelle over the next five years. The programme has seen GKN Aerospace collaborate closely with Leonardo, including participation in the inaugural joint supplier and end-user conference held in Turin.
Driving efficiency with custom IC Design
Swindon Silicon Systems to demonstrate ASIC solutions for more sustainable manufacturing at electronica 2024.
To help streamline industrial processes,?ASIC design and supply specialist?Swindon Silicon Systems will be offering its expertise at?electronica 2024, taking place from 12 to 15 November at the Messe München Trade Fair Center in Munich, Germany.
