2024 Might Be Tough as There's No Pandemic of Great Leaders

As we enter the final month of 2023, I find myself reflecting on a pervasive challenge I’ve heard throughout the year.
Organizations tell me that they don’t have enough leaders ready - right now - to deliver results today and move their organizations forward over time. 2024 is going to be a problem if they don't figure this out.
Let’s face it; we aren’t suffering from a pandemic of too many great leaders.?
Fixing this problem starts with shifting individuals from a follower mindset to a leader mindset and associated actions. In the coming weeks, my team and I will build an assessment instrument for organizations to assess that gap and help them devise a plan to close it.?
But, as a consumer of our content, I don’t want you to wait for the tool to be created before you close that gap. 2024 is right around the corner, and there is no time to wait.
A Quick Diagnostic: Follower Versus Leader Mindsets
Do a quick inventory of your leaders to see what you are up against. For each leader (or group of leaders) ask yourself if they are more likely to:?
1: Are they most likely to:
A. Blend into the crowd, even pushing back on new business goals and initiatives.
B. Forge new paths and embrace opportunities.?
2: Are they most likely to:
A. Lose focus on essential objectives and tasks.?
B. Put energy behind what matters most.?
3: Are they most likely to:
A. Ignore issues that need to be addressed.?
B. Hold themselves and others accountable.
4: Are they most likely to:
A. Do what they want to do.
B. Accomplish what needs to be done for your people, customers, and the organization.
5: Are they most likely to:
A. Act as if they have to do it all themselves.?

B. Delegate tasks and empower others.
6: Are they most likely to:
A. Crumble under pressure.
B. Rise to challenges.
7: Are they most likely to:
A. Magnify minor issues and create unnecessary drama.
B. Put things into perspective and act accordingly.
8: Are they most likely to:
A. Demand respect without exhibiting the qualities that earn it.
B. Earn respect by consistently doing what is right.
Do a Quick Calculation
Add up the number of As and Bs you just assessed.?
Ask yourself:?
I strongly believe that your answers to the above three questions will have a profound impact on your ability to achieve or limit success.?
Here’s the harsh reality: Your leaders aren't the problem. Yes, one or two may be problematic, but most or all of them? Nope. It’s a systemic problem. You haven’t figured out how to systemize developing leaders.?
Tons of organizations have this problem. It took me decades to figure out the solution.?
