As 2024 Ends, Here’s What Lies Ahead for Plumbing and Our Members?

As we approach the end of 2024, it’s evident that the plumbing industry, despite the challenges, is navigating a landscape filled with promising opportunities. Recent insights from the Housing Industry Association (HIA) (HIA) underscore the short-term realities we face and the opportunities we must seize as we head into 2025.

Here’s where we stand right now:?

  • The housing market is stabilising but remains tight. New home sales are subdued in New South Wales and Victoria, with Queensland showing resilience. While approvals are up slightly, finance approvals for new home construction remain below 2008.?
  • Skilled trades shortages are a pressing issue. To meet the government’s goal of 1.2 million new homes, the industry needs an additional 83,000 tradespeople, including nearly 12,000 plumbers. Public sector projects draw skilled trades away from housing, adding strain.?
  • Renovation activity remains flat, and while project pipelines are improving, they’re not robust.?

Here's how the Plumbers Co-op is proactively preparing for the months ahead:?

  1. Strong Regional Momentum: Despite the tight market, we’re experiencing solid growth in our key regions and building momentum in the financial year. This speaks to the strength of our Member network and the power of our Co-op model.?
  2. Focus on Maintenance Plumbing: Maintenance plumbing remains vital, providing reliable opportunities for Members as homes and infrastructure require ongoing care.?
  3. Leveraging Public Sector Work: With government investment at record levels, we support Members engaged in public projects like schools, government buildings, and community infrastructure.?

The Plumbers Co-op Castle Hill Branch: Now also the site of the new "Co-Op Design Showroom", a dedicated front-of-wall showroom where Members can bring clients for buying support.

What this means for our Co-op Members:?

We are doubling down on the fundamentals: delivering exceptional service, ensuring availability, and keeping our promises. By prioritising these, we aim to remain your first choice for plumbing supplies, especially in these competitive conditions.?

Next year will mark a historic milestone for the Co-op — 70 years of serving our Members. This isn’t just a celebration of our past; it’s a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to our future. As we enter 2025, we are determined to continue driving value and supporting the success of every member.?

The challenges are real, but so is our dedication to adapt, innovate, and lead. Let’s tackle this next chapter confidently and purposefully, knowing that the Plumbers Co-op is fully committed to the industry's success.
