2024 — End of Year Highlights

With the help of feature articles on Leela AI published in recent weeks in Forbes and The Boston Globe, even more people are learning about the power of visual intelligence. Here is a closer look, along with other 4Q Leela highlights.

Leela AI in the News

Forbes showcases Leela AI as an Innovation Leader

The Forbes story, American Policy To Drive Revival Of Technology And Business Growth, spotlights Leela AI as a prime example of innovative US technology driving homegrown industrial growth. The story notes that Leela’s energy-efficient AI technology could provide an antidote to AI’s skyrocketing power consumption. Reporter Dean DeBiase interviews me about Leela AI’s unique vision for visual intelligence and includes a quote from Drew Satorius, Global Director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology at BAC. Says Satorius: “Leela’s solution has helped us gain a deeper understanding of bottlenecks with insight into operational improvement opportunities.”

The Boston Globe reveals Leela’s family ties – and its first patent grant

The Boston Globe story (which like Forbes is behind a paywall) includes several quotes from me, but focuses primarily on our CTO Henry Minsky. Henry describes how his vision for Leela’s neurosymbolic AI was based in part on the groundbreaking AI work of his late father, Marvin Minsky, often referred to as the “Father of AI.”?

The Globe story also breaks the news that Leela AI has been granted its first patent.

Patent Granted!

Screenshot of patent history

The Computer vision learning system patent protects the core of the Leela AI visual learning engine. This covers the general application of this learning system to any visual understanding problem.?

Benefits of this system over a pure neural network approach:

  • More explainable
  • More reliable
  • More computationally efficient for training and inference (potentially 1000x)

There is a lot being written right now about world models. We believe that this technology will prove critical to building an efficient world model that is practical to deploy in real world applications.?

Product News

We made our first deployment of TaskSync, a module that connects back office systems to Leela AI data. This helps manufacturers understand the delta between standard work expectations and what is actually happening. The system also provides feedback to workers on the shop floor.

Events

In the fourth quarter, we ramped up our participation in manufacturing trade shows. We started out in September at the IMTS 2024 show in Chicago where we were showcased in the Google Cloud booth. In October, we flew back to Chicago for THE ASSEMBLY SHOW where Cyrus Shaoul gave a presentation with Baltimore Aircoil and we were honored to be nominated by ASSEMBLY Magazine as one of 20 products at the show competing for "New Product of the Year."?

We also exhibited at FABTECH in Orlando, AXIS Immerse in Boston, and the MIT Houston Symposium.

Other News

AI in Manufacturing Podcast and an upcoming webinar

In September, Cyrus Shaoul was interviewed by Kudzai Manditereza for the latest AI in Manufacturing Podcast from Industry40tv. They covered a lot of ground, ranging from MQTT integration, our new edge server option, and our fast-training neurosymbolic AI engine. He also related some case studies, including a customer that has achieved major increases in production capacity only four months after deployment. Another decreased safety noncompliance incidents by half.?
