2024 Embedded Vision Summit: Tips for Submitting a Presentation Proposal

2024 Embedded Vision Summit: Tips for Submitting a Presentation Proposal

A conversation with Edge AI and Vision Alliance Founder, Jeff Bier

The Embedded Vision Summit is entering its 14th year, and as registration opens, we sat down with Edge AI and Vision Alliance Founder Jeff Bier to understand why someone might speak at the Summit, what he’s looking forward to learning about, what was successful in the past and why attendees return year after year.

Alliance: Why might someone consider speaking at the Summit??

Jeff: I’d like to answer this by sharing what past speakers have told me. They’ve told me that they learn a lot in the process of presenting and greatly expand their networks. Presenting a session is a great way to meet peers, potential partners and even investors who are focused on technology. Presenters also receive valuable feedback from our team when preparing their talk, as well as post-event data from our audience surveys, providing a great opportunity to learn and improve.?

Alliance: What speakers and topics stood out to you from last year’s Embedded Vision Summit??

Jeff: One of the highlights was Vaibhav Ghadiok’s presentation on Hayden AI's solution for improving the performance of city buses. Their innovative approach involves automatically issuing tickets to cars that block bus lanes, a pervasive issue in congested cities like New York.?

Three key factors made this presentation particularly intriguing: It addressed a real-world problem, showcasing embedded vision's role in resolving everyday issues. Also, it highlighted some of the technical challenges of addressing such real-world problems. Understanding these challenges and Hayden AI's solutions provides immense value for those engaged in similar projects. Lastly, despite its apparent niche focus, this talk had broader implications. For example, the cameras used to address the bus lane issue could serve multiple purposes, from monitoring fire hydrants and potholes to optimizing garbage collection.

Alliance: We have a comprehensive list of suggested presentation topics on our website, but are there any areas of interest that you’re honing in on??

Jeff: I'm especially looking forward to hearing more from our community on the subject of multimodal models in 2024. The idea of processing data from different types of sensors simultaneously has huge potential for real-world applications. It's definitely a topic I'm eager to explore.

If you’ve attended before, you know that the Summit offers a holistic treatment of implementing perceptual AI in products. It includes introductory technical talks, more advanced technical presentations, insights from component suppliers, business case studies and crucial topics like addressing bias in AI applications.

Alliance: Do you have any advice for speakers submitting a proposal for the 2024 Summit??

Jeff: If you're considering submitting a presentation proposal for the Summit, remember that real-world techniques and applications, technical challenges and case studies are key topics that will engage the Summit audience.?

And a great way to see the kinds of topics that we cover is to look at last year’s program.

Showcase how your work addresses a tangible problem, highlight the complexities you've faced and overcome and explore the potential applications beyond the immediate scope of your project. This approach will not only make your presentation captivating but also inspire others to harness perceptual AI technology to create their own innovative solutions.
