2024 Daegu Chimac Festival, Scheduled for July 3-7 at Duryu Park: "Cool Off the Summer Heat in Daegu, the Mecca of Chicken and Beer"

A summer night festival that makes all forget the heat will unfold in Daegu, the 'Mecca of Chimac.' The '2024 Daegu Chimac Festival' will be held from July 3 (Wednesday) to July 7 (Sunday) for five days around Duryu Park, Peace Market, and Duryu Youth Street under the slogan 'It's Summer! Let's CHIMAC'.

Last year, the Chimac Festival was held at the end of August due to the construction of the 2.28 Freedom Square in Duryu Park, but this year, it has returned as a summer festival.

The Daegu Chimac Festival Organizing Committee plans to fill the event with unique content that reflects the festival's identity. This will heat the festival atmosphere while helping visitors forget the heat.

Last year's 'Chimac Newniverse (New+Universe)' secured the identity as the only sacred place of Chimac. The festival saw the participation of 85 companies with 224 booths, surpassing 1 million visitors, thereby firmly establishing itself as a leading festival in South Korea. Moreover, it was selected for the fifth consecutive year as a 'Cultural Tourism Festival' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which evaluates over 1,200 festivals nationwide, setting the stage for becoming 'Korea's Top Global Festival.'

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Daegu Chimac Festival was ranked first for people's intentions to revisit it and recommend it to others. The secret to this success is attributed to the unique concepts and content available only at the Chimac Festival.

The festival's main stage, 2.28 Freedom Square, will be themed as the 'Tropical Chimac Club'. Additionally, the stage position, previously oriented towards the front of the grass field, will be moved to the center, allowing the festival to be enjoyed from the grass and picnic fields. This will create an 'open stage' that enhances spatial connectivity and allows enjoyment from any location.

This adjustment of the stage location will reduce noise in the vicinity of the festival area and secure 800 new stand seats, significantly expanding the dining space.

The Premium Chimac Lounge, sold out for two consecutive years, will increase its seats and benefits. From the existing 960 seats, this year, it will expand to 1,500 seats with a tropical theme and provide canopies to ensure comfort even in the rain. Along with a set of chicken and beer at each table, this year's festival will introduce a 'special sauce' unique to the Chimac Festival and a discount voucher for chicken in Daegu. Tickets for the Premium Chimac Lounge can be reserved starting from 10 a.m. on the 20th (Thursday).

With the return of the Chimac Festival as a summer event in July, the 2.28 parking lot will be revived as the 'Hawaiian Ice Pub,' a cool-water dining zone. The space will be set up with TFS tents capable of blocking heat and rain and equipped with ceiling fans and air circulation vents to ensure a comfortable environment for enjoying chicken and beer.

The Kolon Outdoor Music Hall will be transformed into the 'Chimac Sunset Garden.' The space will be a hotspot where you can take the perfect photo from any angle with beautiful lighting.

The tourist information center area with the highest visitor satisfaction among the Chimac Festival contents will be upgraded to the 'Chimac Hot Summer Disco Pocha.' With a disco pub concept, it will be decorated as a live cafe from the 70s and 80s, and a dance floor will be installed. Along the streets of Duryu Park, 'Street Chimac Pubs' will be set up to provide standing dining zones.

The festival entrance, the face of the Chimac Festival, will also see major changes. Previously, traffic control fences and facilities were used to control entry to the festival area, which led to criticisms that the entrance needed to fulfill its role adequately. To address this, a 'Festival Welcome Information Booth' will be newly established at the entrance to allow visitors to feel the festival atmosphere fully, and dining table seating will also be provided in unused spaces.

Additionally, this year's Chimac Festival is planned to be enjoyed by everyone, young and old, without missing a single day. Various musicians from genres including hip-hop, trot, and rock are?invited to the main stage and to stages that match the concept of each festival area to add to the festive atmosphere.

Efforts to boost the local economy through 'Daegu-ro' will also be strengthened. By using the 'Daegu-ro' app for pickup orders, visitors can order and pick up chicken without having to stand in line in the heat. In particular, visitors who have reserved the Premium Chimac Lounge will receive a 10,000 won discount coupon for pickup orders, and general visitors will receive a 5,000 won discount coupon, making the festival more enjoyable without financial burden. A taxi rank will also be established with Daegu-ro Taxi to allow visitors to catch a taxi directly from the festival site without waiting, ensuring their safe return home.

Efforts to attract domestic and international tourists are also noteworthy and align with the festival's global status. A 'Global Reservation Dining Zone' will be set up on the grass field where the main stage is located to allow international tourists to immerse themselves in the Chimac Festival. Global tourist products are also being sold with Klook, a major Asian travel platform. These products include a pass to the Premium Chimac Lounge, a package of chicken, beer, and special sauce, and a discount voucher for E-World.

Plans are also in place to introduce KTX-linked products that make it easier for festival participants from all over the country to visit without burden. Details of these products, which include 50% off KTX tickets on weekdays and 30% off on weekends, plus a 10,000 won Chimac Festival coupon, will be announced later.
