2024 - It comes with no warranty!

Ops! he did it again...

Kronos did it again and for a few days more - as this present year comes to a close - 2024 is still loomed as the future. It persists as the promise of a new year that will bring the very best: health, growth, unity, love, tranquility and prosperity (etc, etc) for everyone.

Few moments manifest our hopes and dreams as clearly as the end of one year and the beginning of another. We bid farewell to everything it brought, especially those moments of pain, anger, or frustration. In some cases, with a touch of consciousness, we can express gratitude for the good things the past twelve months brought, now covered in dust, preparing ourselves to welcome a brand-new, shiny year full of possibilities. It's a blank canvas, a promise of change, evolution, a step closer to that long-awaited happiness.

The rituals, hugs, and well-wishes that unfold with the twelve chimes clearly express our need to imagine a guaranteed happiness, or at least one with limited assurance, for the next three hundred and sixty-six days... (yep! this is a leap year ???)

How wonderful it would be to approach the colleague who warmly embraced us at 00:01 on January 1, 2023, with a warranty in hand and somehow claim dissatisfaction with the expectations: "You said it would be a great year"... How nice it would be to receive a replacement year when the one we got didn't meet expectations, replace it with one with the same name as the current, but where all expectations expressed before, after, or with because of that promising hug are fulfilled.

However, the most likely response to the complaint would be in fine print and sound something like: "We regret to inform the user that the warranty must be claimed with the manufacturer of time, and the one giving the hug is not responsible for the product's quality once the affectionate gesture is received."

Unlike the trendy gadget or toy received a few days earlier, depending on what each person celebrates during this time, the new year comes with no satisfaction guarantees. We can't go to the manufacturer to complain about defects or imperfections, and in case of failure, we'll have to wait for another new year to once again receive promises of a fulfilling and completely satisfying life.

Good wishes and a positive attitude toward life's events are necessary and important, a way to express our affection and concern for others, strengthening the spirit and relationships between people.

But it is crucial to understand that no year comes with a warranty, that we don't have the rest of our lives memorized, and the results obtained will depend on time, the proper use of the product, and the utilization of all the advantages each moment presents.

I propose that we wish for a challenging 2024, one that puts our capabilities and creativity to the test to overcome any situation we encounter. Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes full of opportunities to remember that we are always enough to live our lives, and each instant is an opportunity to be the best version of ourselves... if we so decide. Let's yearn for a 2024 that brings us new questions for which we have no answers, fifty-two weeks in which we can collaborate with each other to build new realities, and let them be the result of our effort and not just our desires.

If there's still life, we will have the opportunity to choose and make better decisions, knowing that change and evolution come from commitment, not from expectations.
