?? We are putting the spotlight on Gabriella Celidonio Paschoa FCIArb, our Global Steering Committee member based in Brazil.
Gabriella, please tell us more about yourself:
?? What led you to the field of dispute resolution?
I graduated from law school with a passion for dispute resolution, which led me to specialize in civil procedure. However, I became increasingly dissatisfied with the effectiveness of traditional litigation due to its time-consuming nature and high costs. Despite my best efforts, I often found that the proceedings did not fully meet my clients' needs or achieve their intended purposes.
This dissatisfaction prompted me to explore alternative methods of conflict resolution that could offer more customized solutions. It was during this search that I discovered the field of consensual methods, such as mediation, negotiation, dispute boards, and dispute system design. I immediately fell in love with these approaches, as they provided answers for about 80% of my cases. Through these methods, I was able to prevent conflicts and resolve them in a more strategic, secure, and efficient manner.
?? How did you get involved in CIArb and the CIArb YMG?
Seeking education abroad, I chose to attend an accredited mediation course at the London School of Mediation (London/UK). This course enabled me to become an accredited mediator in both Brazil and the UK and also allowed me to become an associate of CIArb.
Later, when a Brazilian branch of CIArb was launched, I was invited to be the first chair of the CIArb Young Members Group (YMG) Brazilian Branch. I served in this role for three years, from 2020 to 2022.
Currently, I am a council member of the YMG CIArb Brazil Branch .

?? Can you share a personal or professional goal you would like to achieve soon?
As a mother of a young daughter, my personal goal is to be an ethical and hardworking role model for her. I am acutely aware of my responsibility to set a positive example, and my deepest desire is to embody the qualities of a good role model, striving to improve every day.
?Professionally, my primary goal is to continue working with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods, achieving significant settlements, and promoting consensual approaches throughout my highly litigious country. I aim to contribute to a cultural shift where future generations view adjudicatory methods as a last resort for conflict resolution.
?? What do you hope to contribute to the CIArb YMG as a Global Steering Committee Member?
Serving on the YMG Global Steering Committee would be an extraordinary opportunity to leverage my skills and experiences to benefit young ADR practitioners worldwide. I am particularly excited about the prospect of planning, organizing, and promoting activities tailored to their unique needs. I am committed to fostering an environment that values gender and regional diversity.
