The 2024 AusAgritech survey is open for your input this November .
If you are agritech supplier, investor, government agency, primary producer or supporter, please consider filling out the survey. Your input matters.
If you are a peak body or other support or member-based organisation supporting Australian agriculture, please consider sending the survey to your members and customers. Your impact will benefit from our collective understanding.
In this post, I share insights from the 2023 Ausagritech report to help you understand the importance of your feedback in contributing to our collective understanding and influencing change in agritech development, adoption, and impact in Australia.
The 2023 Agritech Report
Policy and ecosystem review
The 2023 Ausagritech report included an overview of the Australian agritech innovation ecosystem and a review of state and federal policy positions. We identified varying levels of support, differences in definitions, and differences in which department acted as the engagement point for agritech across each state, territory, and federal government.
It will be interesting to understand what has and has not changed in 2024. Policy is a powerful to focus attention, as what you focus on grows. We will see where roadmaps have yielded results, where strategies have come out of consultation or been lost in development, and where funding has been explicit for agritech or, more broadly, related to climate or agriculture innovation.
Profile categories
The 2023 report acknowledged that agritech is not one-size-fits-all. Responses were segmented based on a framework that considered organisation status (emerging, established, scaling) and model (hardware, software, service). This was helpful in understanding unique perspectives, for example, workforce requirements for established service providers versus emerging software companies or scaling ware businesses.
In 2024, we expect to expand the framework to better incorporate producers and supporters of the agritech ecosystem.
Your input will help us to understand inhibitors and enablers from the different sides of the agritech value chain.
Company profile
The 2023 report considered the profile of companies based on company age, headquarters location, and existing and target market size. This information was useful in understanding the size of markets that companies were supporting and targeting at each stage.
The current report includes additional profile information related to the respondent's position, organisational role, and founder demographics and ownership composition. We are also expanding insights into global remit and intention to expand.
Your input will help us to understand the unique needs and opportunities of diverse business.
Strengths, weaknesses, challenges, priorities, and workforce challenges
Last year's report was coming off the back of the global COVID-19 pandemic and included a focus on workforce needs and projections. The report also explored perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Australian agritech ecosystem including collaboration and funding, challenges, and policy priorities.
The report this year has expanded the questions to capture open comments about agritech adoption, a focus on the contribution of government, and isolate international versus domestic capital.
Your input will add your voice to challenges and practical action government and industry can take to improve agritech development and adoption in Australia.
Support for our peak bodies
I have been supporting AusAgritech over the past two years with data analysis and reporting. I firmly believe that stronger, sustainable, and trusted peak bodies create a stronger innovation ecosystem. This is achieved through representation and advocacy to enable greater collective impact.
Reliable, relevant, accurate, and accessible data and information are essential for this outcome.
Complete and pass it on
The survey takes an average of 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
If you are involved in any way in the agritech value chain, please grab a beverage of your choice and complete the survey to add your voice to the future direction of agritech in Australia.
If you have completed the survey, please ensure you tag others in your network or email this post directly so we have a broad representation of insights.
Thank you for your contribution as we work together for a positive impact on agriculture innovation and productivity in Australia.
