2024: Another Go!

Welcome to a new year and a new you. Oh wait, you’re still you! You’re still overweight, overworked and steaming to hit the goals you missed last year. Laying off the Oreos, hitting those numbers at work, going to the gym more than twice a month. ?Even if we are not where we thought we would be on this very morning, we still need to look back at all the things we dodged. All the things we can be grateful for, like the fact you’re reading this with eyes to see, and breath in your lungs. You get another year of life, not everyone does.

Start out slow. Sometimes I must catch myself when I am attempting to move too fast on a task. I get this idea I can move the needle like superwoman. And it will move alright, but it will move slower than I would like. Or anyone else who’s counting on me would like. However, slow is okay. Gradual, is okay. Buildings don’t just go up in a single day, or even a week, but small gains do. And small gains lead to big things. Big things that don’t topple over later due to poor structure.

Systems lead to small measurable gains. When you’re preparing for wins this year, consider the systems you implement to make these gains happen. Everyone says it starts in the kitchen with food when losing weight. I tell people it starts in the grocery store. If you don’t buy it, then it won’t come home with you. If it doesn’t come home with you, you won’t be eating it. If it makes it to your kitchen, you’ll be temped by it every day. Make a grocery list before you go and only buy what is on it. Same with the gym. Put your phone in the neighboring room or bathroom and force yourself up in the morning to turn off the alarm. Now, you’re up and on your feet. Go splash some cold water on your face and get to the next step, shoes. Systems are routine and they help you get those small wins. Getting up every morning for a workout, not buying junk food, and holding yourself accountable.

Systematic small gains equal long-term success. I don’t always make it to the early morning gym. But I still wake up at 4:15 every morning, because I have created these systems that long term, my brain and body, (sometimes miserably) know how to follow. It’s a win just getting up every morning. A win that will aid me in future successes with my appearance at the gym and my overall fitness. What I am saying is, you don’t have to be perfect. Many people think they must be perfect and when they make a few small errors they call it a failure and end up here again. At the beginning of a new year with the same goal and no lessons learned. Then the patten will start all over again. It’s not a failure. It’s just a highlight of something you could change, by changing your system (so change the system damn it!). Once you give up it’s over. Make small changes to your system to create long-term successes.

My 2024 goal this year is to write about information that really builds and motivates you to increase your livelihood through small wins. To help you write more business. To help you become more educated about yourself. To help you discover your passions and what will drive you to your own wins and success. I am not great, but I am good. Good enough to know that by changing my own systems I too can indeed do great things. After all, we are lucky enough to get have another year to go at it!
