2024-25 State Nominated Program Opens
The Department of Home Affairs announced the 2024-25 state and territory nomination allocations. Nomination allocations are the number of new primary applicants each state or territory can nominate in a program year. In the first week of August, we published a podcast that focussed on what those numbers looked like for each state and touched upon some key things applicants need to know about the General skilled and state-nominated migration programs.
Have a listen to that podcast below.
The State Nominated Program for visa subclass 190 and 491 is now open for Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, and ACT.
Changes to Australian Citizenship
A new requirement has been introduced to the citizenship application process. The new eligibility criterion introduces the need for an Australian citizen to vouch for the applicant's identity.
This person must complete an identity declaration form and certify a photo of the applicant. The verifier cannot be related to the applicant by birth, marriage, or de facto relationship and must be easily reachable by phone during working hours.
We have outlined the salient features of this new requirement in the article below.
Visa Application Charges - Student Visas
New regulations that have come into effect from July 1, 2024, under the Migration Amendment Regulations 2024 impact the Visa Application charges (VAC) for Student Visas. This change is to better align the cost of the VAC with the value gained by student visa holders accessing Australia's high-quality education system.
