2023 Wrapped!

2023 was a shift for me on many fronts. On the day job front, I moved from the operator/builder side of the equation to investor (don’t worry, I’m still building plenty of things ;-)) and joined GreatPoint Ventures full time (thesis here). And we’ve had the great fortune to invest in a number of companies I’m incredibly excited about.?

One privilege that I continue to have is to publicly share my perspectives in a number of talks/interviews. And this year, I had the opportunity to interview an incredible set of people across a variety of forums like the Commonwealth Club of California and create a new series on LinkedIn to learn from the OGs of data science.?

I was fortunate enough to interview Suneel Gupta for his first book Backable (which is one of the most recommended books I send entrepreneurs) on his new book, Everyday Dharma, which is about how to live a life with purpose. It’s a profound set of lessons that I keep coming back to. – video

Erik Brynjolfsson is one of the best thinkers about how the world is going to change due to technology (especially AI). I always come away with fresh, new perspectives about the world. Here’s a fireside chat we got to have at the AI Conference. – video

At the Future of the Internet Summit at Harvard I was able to interview luminaries including James Mickens, Latanay Sweene, and Larry Lessig on what they think about most to ensure that technology works for us rather than against us –?video

Data Impact with DJ Patil: Most of all, I’m excited about the new series that we’ve launched on LinkedIn where I get to talk to the people I admire most in data science. It’s the interviews I wish I would have had when I started out. LinkedIn has made it free for everyone as a service to the data science community. They’re releasing a new episode each month. The interviews with Roger Magoulas, Ben Lorica, and danah boyd are up and soon to be up are Monica Rogati, Todd Park, and Jonathan Goldman.?

I did give a couple of talks including this one at Data Council, where for the first time talk about the lessons from the COVID response and where data helped and didn’t – The Things I Wish I Knew: What I've Gotten Right & Wrong from Startups to White House & World Ahead –?
