2023 as seen through the editorials of POWERTRAIN International
What have we written about the big fair events of 2023? Our forecasts compared with what actually happened. We still had vivid memories of bauma Munich and reported some impressions there (for example, that of Waker Neuson, Wirtgen, and John Deere). Although the trade fair system is in a crisis of consensus among stakeholders, trade fairs are the one and only real time for networking among stakeholders. Last week I attended Intermat Days, which are reserved for the press. We will soon tell you about the adaptive strategies of one of the three big CECE (Commitee for European Construction Equipment) events, the one to be held in Paris Villepinte from April 24 to 27.

The trade fair ecosystem is in full swing, construction comes from years of vitality that have consigned the depression of the post-2008/2009 crisis to the file of unpleasant memories. It seems logical, therefore, to wonder about the curve of this industry. The trade fair ecosystem is the place where this curve meets market expectations and the unknowns linked to decarbonisation. Let’s take a step back to the recent past. At Bauma Munich, around 3,200 exhibitors from 60 countries and more than 495,000 visitors from over 200 countries. In 2019 there were 3,684 exhibitors from 63 countries and 627,603 visitors. However, these figures are above expectations, considering the variables of the pandemic resurgence in China, the war in Ukraine and the now endemic supply chain shortage. Alexander Greschner, Chief Sales Officer at Wacker Neuson Group, commented: “Visitors flocked to our stand, and we had a lot of very good discussions”. Domenic Ruccolo, CSO of Wirtgen Group and Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Product Support for Global Construction Equipment at John Deere, confirmed: “The interest in our company and our innovative and sustainable products was simply overwhelming.”
