2023 Reflections....and Proteins on the Cheap!

A lot can be said about 2023 when it comes to food system transformation, global attention (both good and bad) on food-focused solutions to climate change and innovation that has opened the door to a more sustainable food system. For myself and the many food scientists, engineers, producers, writers and brokers, whose collective work puts the “Partners” in Lazimy Regenerative Impact Partners , it’s been a year marked by change, challenge, growth and inspiration — all of which we embraced and leaves me excited for a 2024 filled with even more impact.

Over the past twelve months, we started the year off in collaboration with the Good Food Institute with the release of a comprehensive report about the “Untapped Potential of Mung Beans for Alternative Proteins ”, brought on exciting clients like Beyond Meat, Ever After, Day 8 and others, and partnered with Informa Markets (organizers of Natural Products Expo West and Supply Side) to launch our “Eating With Integrity ” article series on Food And Beverage Insider, and spoke about “Sustainability in Food & Bev” at Supply Side West.?

A lot more happened in 2023, but one of the things that was least expected was the amount of requests we received to support farmers, suppliers and CPGs around the world with finding markets for their sustainable, plant-based ingredients. From organics like quinoa and sunflower lecithin, to pea, soy and mung bean protein isolate, Lazimy Regenerative Impact Partners quickly became involved in very unique supply partnerships, helping to increase access to ingredients for our network of food brands and distributors who need sustainable solutions to address consumer demands for ingredients with integrity. Thus was born Fudi Ingredients. (I did not have an unexpected birth on my 2023 bingo card!)

No, I’m not historically an ingredient salesman, and to be honest, it didn’t come naturally to chase sales. But with my many years of building supply chains and buying proteins and other ingredients from the demand-side (for Eat Just? and others), I understand the needs of buyers. So as we continue to serve clients with building farm-to-product supply chain solutions, providing business development acumen and sustainability roadmaps, we will also continue to provide supply solutions for a diversity of ingredients from around the world.?

With that, I’m excited to share with you access to an incredible end-of-year opportunity:

Better yet, all of these ingredients are already available in the U.S.!

Pea Protein Isolate

One of the oldest and most sustainable sources of plant-based protein, Pea Protein is highly versatile. A great option for anyone looking to develop dressings, mayos, as well as a healthy alternative to animal-derived proteins like whey commonly used in fitness powders.

Soy Protein Isolate?

Clinically shown to significantly lower cholesterol and blood lipid levels, soy protein is also a proven partner in promoting muscle mass when combined with resistance training. Additionally, soy protein is uniquely useful to increase food elasticity, act as an emulsifier, as well as increase oil and water retention. It’s kind of a workhorse.

Mung Bean Protein Isolate?

Here at Fudi , we understand not all proteins are right for the job. In applications where soy or pea aren't quite right, the lesser known mung bean has proven quite useful in a variety of functional applications . An excellent choice for mimicking the texture and bounce of conventional eggs and even some meats, mung bean offers exceptional emulsification benefits and packs a substantial amino acids profile making it perfect for products like sport drinks and more.?
