It's that time of year again. I've done the listening for you. Start your 2023 right by subscribing to any/all of these.
Click here for my 2022,?2021,?2020,?2019,?2018, and?2017?picks. Most of those are still in my playlist.
If I had to recommend only 3 podcasts (spoiler alert: same as last year):
- Making Sense?- The only podcast I've ever paid for. Sam Harris applies rational thought to both current topics and eternal, existential questions. He is equally hated (at times) by both Leftists and Rightists. That's probably one reason he resonates with me.
- Jordan Harbinger?- Fantastic interviewer with a focus on making you better. Recent guests include Metta World Peace, Steven Pinker, Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, Yeonmi Park, and Rick Ross. I learn something in every episode.
- Brain in a Vat?- Attainable philosophy discussions with South African flavor. These guys somehow manage to bring deep philosophy just within my reach. Before them, epistemology was what happened after I drank too much beer.
Compelling new additions for 2023:
- The Gist - Technically a new incarnation of an old favorite. Mike Pesca's triumphant return to independent takes on all the hot topics, delicious wordplay, and (for some strange reason) frequent coverage of flag design.
- Labyrinths - Amanda Knox (yes, the one who spent too much time in Italy) and her husband Christopher Robinson (no, you're thinking of Winnie the Pooh) dive into all sorts of random topics and people with depth, heart, and curiosity.
- Daily Stoic - I suspect I'm falling into a basic hype cycle, but Stoicism latched onto my soul in 2022. Fueled largely by daily 10-minute adaptations of Marcus Aurelius to modern life as presented by Ryan Holliday's entry-level podcast. This one might break into the top 3 for next year.
- Twenty Thousand Hertz - This is a great example of podcast perfection. A sound is the driving theme for each wildly different episode- typically followed by an unwarranted level of research and fantastic storytelling. I'm not telling you more. Just subscribe today. This one may well also break into the top 3 next year.
As usual, please comment with your favorite podcasts from any genre. Always on the lookout for quality!
