GenAI and the Modern Workplace
"2021 is already ancient history!"
This is one of the quotes on the webinar I just attended.
The topic was "GenAI’s impact on Software development" and it was again eye-opening.
You might say, software development is not for me. And yes, you might not be or become a developer (though there is and will be a massive shortage of developers
97% of developers are happier or more satisfied when using GenAI (called Co-Pilots).
Does that apply to other jobs as well??
We do not know yet, but what becomes more and more obvious is that the impact can hardly be underestimated.?
How much of your work is ideation, structuring, creating, correcting, understanding, analysing and so on??
For all of those activities, GenAI can support. It will not take away the job or be of significant help for the most complex tasks but it will be for the majority of tasks.?
Is 2023 a pivotal year??
Are we going to speak of “before 2023” and “after 2023”??
I would like to quote Bill Gates from March 2023:?
"In my lifetime, I have seen two demonstrations of technology that struck me as revolutionary … the GUI and ChatGPT."
This is such a profound statement of someone like Bill Gates. And it is in line with another great thinker - Peter Diamandis who says: “Key for a breakthrough is a good user-interface.”
In my view, we are just beginning to understand where and how GenAI is going to impact us.?
Why is it so big??
Very simple: language is the key modality to how we interact. And computers now “understand” and can speak or write our language (and images and sound too).?

Let’s look at four aspects.?
1) GenAI: A Ubiquitous Force Across Roles
2023 has underscored a crucial reality: GenAI isn't confined to tech-centric roles; it permeates every aspect of professional life. From enhancing decision-making processes
2) Unpredictable Speed of Change
One of the most striking aspects of GenAI is the sheer speed at which it evolves. What seemed like science fiction a few years or even a few months ago is now a tangible reality. The jump from ChatGPT 3.5 to ChatGPT 4 (which supports this article) was staggering and the speed continues. The same applies for image generators, music generators, language translators and so on. This rapid evolution
3) Humans and AI: A Synergistic Relationship
As GenAI becomes more integrated into our daily tasks, the role of humans in this symbiosis is increasingly significant. AI isn't replacing us; rather, it's augmenting our capabilities, enabling us to achieve higher efficiency, creativity, and problem-solving skills. This human-AI partnership
And as mentioned above, Co-Pilots can significantly increase work satisfaction!?
4) GenAI Literacy : A Must for Everyone
The widespread impact of GenAI necessitates a basic, if not thorough, understanding of these technologies across all levels of an organization. In a world where GenAI is a key differentiator, the organizations that leverage these tools effectively will outpace those that don’t. It's not just about staying competitive; it's about harnessing the full potential of human and AI collaboration.
Closing Thoughts
As we reflect on the significance of 2023 in the context of GenAI, let's remember that we're not just passive observers of this change; we're active participants. It's an exciting time to be in any professional field, as the boundaries of what's possible are continually expanding. Let's embrace this era of innovation with open minds and a keen sense of curiosity.
At Beyond the Obvious, Markus and I decided to take the path of developing and building a business with a GenAI first approach.?
Reach out to us if you want to be part of the journey or if you want to work with us.?
We are all learning as nobody knows exactly where we are heading. So, why not learn whilst doing something meaningful.?
I look forward to hearing from you.
