2023: Personal Highlights

I know the year's not over yet, but I'm on vacation until January, so it's basically over for me. In an exercise of gratitude I highly recommend, I spent some time remembering the highlights of the previous 12 months. I've done it in my personal life for 15 years now, but this is the first year I'm doing it for my professional life – I don't know why it took me so long, but I've learned it's just as rewarding. These are in chronological order. It's been a fantastic year. Bring on 2024.

• I was appointed to the board of directors at the UA-Little Rock Alumni Association and the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, two organizations I genuinely care about, and where I feel like I can affect positive change in the communities I love. (January)
• I tagged along on the Garver Town Hall tour and delivered the Office of the Year trophy to the Harlingen office, who showed why they deserved that trophy in the first place. (February)
• I helped make a video about two teams from the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association who competed in the Water Environment Association's Operations Challenge. I loved getting to know those competitors, but I also loved highlighting the challenge itself and learning about the important skills these operators bring to the important job they do. (April)
• I celebrated 10 years at Garver. (May 4)
• I worked Ignite 2023, Garver’s fantastic event that brings all of our Summer interns to one location for a kind of orientation to the firm. So many talented students. The future is bright. (June)
• After I left my Fitbit in a hotel room, my coworkers – in a show of why they are the absolute best – organized a surprise mandatory fun walk to raise awareness for my missing Fitbit. (And IT WORKED! A high school friend saw the video of the fun walk and mailed me an extra Fitbit she had.) (July 14)
• I got inspired by participating in a job shadow day with a talented student from my former high school who is an aspiring writer. (August 30)
• My company president recognized my hardworking video team – on stage in front of more than 1,000 of our people – with the highest honor we could have received at Garver’s annual meeting. (October 26)
