2023 One-Word Intention

2023 One-Word Intention

Each year I select one word to guide my intentions.?This is not my idea, I learned it from my spiritual community.?The history of my one-word intentions follows:

  • 2023: Generosity
  • 2022: Kindness
  • 2021: Love
  • 2020: Patience

Generosity is giving, receiving, walking-with, correction, feedback, leading, and love (patience and kindness). In 2023, I plan to use a tool that I created called Visioning Journey Map and shared in my recent book Belonging and Healing: Creating awesomeness for yourself and others.?Get a copy on Amazon or on DrDaveDuka.com. My vision for the one-word intention in 2023 will be framed as a question.?How might I/we show up with Generosity with family, friends, community, business partners (clients included), and myself.

Why is defining a Visioning Journey beneficial?

  • The Visioning Journey Map provides clarity to your promise and journey.

Be Clear and Kind to Yourself and Others

  • Use the well-formed outcome steps to define your outcome actions for results.

Well-formed Outcomes Steps.
Well-formed Outcomes Steps.

Well-formed Outcomes Steps

  1. State the outcome in positive terms
  2. Ensure the outcome is within your control
  3. Be as specific as possible
  4. Have a sensory-evidence approach. -- How will you know you have reached your goal?
  5. Consider the context
  6. Have access to resources
  7. Ensure the outcome preserves existing benefits
  8. Check the outcome is ecologically sound. -- Be aware of the effect on the wider system.
  9. Define the first step

How to Use the Visioning Journey Map:

  • Use the Visioning Journey Map to clearly identify hurdles as well as outcome goals.

Visioning Journey Map.

  1. Step 1: Start with the end in mind by creating a Vision.
  2. Step 2: Start in #03 and write a Hurdle you may encounter.
  3. Step 3: Move to #02 and write a 2nd Hurdle, then move to #01 write a 3rd Hurdle.
  4. Step 4: Start in #01 and write a desired Goal.
  5. Step 5: Move to #02 and write a 2nd Goal, then move to #03 and write a 3rd Goal.
  6. Step 6: DONE

Go Deeper with Inquiry throughout the Journey

As you engage with this activity, ask the following questions for a deeper connection:

  • When facing each of the identified hurdles, who do you need to be?
  • In what ways might seeing the world limit you?
  • Who do you get to become when you have achieved the goals of the journey?
  • What are the qualities required to make you feel satisfied along the way?
  • Do you have the support system you might need as you continue the journey?
  • Why is this vision significant to you?

Came across your post and really loved it and following you now. My one word intensions are 2022 - PRAY , 2023 - SELF-CONTROL is my GOAL for this year.. already taken some steps towards that and working on to stick on to it to make it a lift style and habit. Came across with 'transformational leader' and 'transactional leader', your thoughts are highly appreciated in fast paced agile culture. Happy New Year.

Hello Dr. Dave, this is Professor Kevin. Happy New Year! I hope you are doing well. I just subscribed and look forward to the newsletter distribution. I would love to get on a Zoom call and chat because I would like you to speak at one of the PMI San Diego Chapter events this year. Thanks!

Dave Cornelius... I'm glad you captured this word because #Generosity supports many so many themes: 1. #LawOfReciprocity 2. #Karma 3. #SeedPlanting (Galatians 6:7) 4. #TheSignificanceParadox 5. #TransformationalLeadership
