There are several major infrastructure projects currently underway, or in the planning stages in Australia, and all will have a notable impact on jobs and on our economy.
Here is an overview of my top five:
- Western Sydney Airport: The Western Sydney Airport project is a major infrastructure project that will provide a new international airport for Sydney, with the first stage of the project set to open in 2026. The project is expected to create around 28,000 #jobs during #construction and around 60,000 jobs once the airport is operational. The airport will also have a significant impact on the surrounding area, including Western Sydney, and is expected to drive economic #growth and development in the region.
- Inland Rail: The #InlandRail project is a 1,700 km rail line that will connect #Melbourne to #Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. The project is expected to create around 16,000 jobs during construction and will impact (positively) regional communities along the rail line. The project is also expected to boost economic growth and improve connectivity between regional and urban areas which, be it controversial, is seen generally as a net positive.
- Melbourne Airport Rail Link: The Melbourne Airport Rail Link is a major #infrastructure project that will provide a direct rail link between the Melbourne CBD and the airport. The project is expected to create around 10,000 jobs during construction and will we a long awaited and welcomed solution for the city of Melbourne, improving connectivity and reducing travel times.
- Perth METRONET: The #Perth #METRONET project is a major public transport infrastructure project that will expand and upgrade the existing #rail network in Perth. The project is expected to create around 10,000 jobs during construction and will be one of the biggest jobs in Perth for decades, improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
- Sydney Metro: The #SydneyMetro project is a major public transport infrastructure project that will expand the existing metro network in Sydney. The project is expected to create around 11,000 jobs during construction, reducing travel times, as well as opening up and giving better access to several areas of the greater Sydney region. Many who use this service now, already say it's a success.
Overall, these major infrastructure projects are expected to have a huge impact on towns, cities, and job prospects across Australia. They will create thousands of jobs during construction, and helping drive economic growth and development in the regions where they are located or are giving access to.
With the #demand so high already for workers across Australia, there is no doubt that skilled labour will be a major factor in ensuring these projects move forward on time, and on budget.
