These 2023 Home Trends Are Going to Be BIG!

If you're doing home renovation, plan on selling soon, or just like to stay in the loop, this post is for you!

According to the NAR Magazine, these home trends are going to be big this year, so pay attention because it can affect future resale value of your home!

Home Offices

COVID has revolutionized the work force. Now almost 20% of employees work remotely with more using a hybrid work schedule. Home offices/dens are becoming more popular and for many people, a necessity.

Induction Cooking Appliances

Induction cooking has been a growing phenomenon for the past little bit and more and more homes are switching from gas stoves to induction stoves. Benefits include faster cooking, better temperature control, and easier cleaning. Many cookware sets are already made for induction cooking too!

Eco-Friendly and Green Home Designs

Homeowners and builders are now opting for more energy efficient and eco-friendly designs and features for homes. These include installing solar panels and upgrading home features to leave zero emissions. This allows for less pollution, better energy efficiency, and lower utility bills.

Cozy and Personalized Interior Design

Natural, Cozy, and more personalize homes are coming back in style. From unique wallpaper to colorful furniture, homeowners are opting for more unique and stylized decorations to fit their individualized taste. Cozy and warm designs tend to be trending now as stress levels are at an all time high.

Feel free to make it you own, that's what makes a house a home! Just keep in mind what potential buyers might like or dislike. Most interior design choices can be updated/changed during the stage process of a home.

Neolithic Surfaces

These strong stones, made of a blend of stone, quartz, glass, and porcelain put under high heat create extra sturdy surfaces for countertops. They are also great for exterior purposes such as outdoor kitchen and facades. Not only are they durable, they resemble marble and other richer surfaces, giving your home a high end look.

Affordable Design Options

In the current economy, homeowners and home buyers consider affordability of a home to be a major selling point. While they appreciate updated interiors, they are drawn to updated homes with affordable upgrades and features. (Example: vinyl flooring instead of wood flooring. Still looks high-end but not as expensive!)

Less Amenities, More EV Stations

Renters and homeowners in multifamily buildings would rather have EV hookups and fewer amenities. Since more and more people are switching to electric cars, they find EV hookups to be essential. They would rather not have the extra amenities--especially if they pay for them and don't use them.

Fire Resistant Homes

Due to extreme fire hazards out West, fire resistant homes/modules are becoming more main stream. In CA, one builder has options of 500 sqft homes up to 4000 sqft. They are built to resist the wild fires that rampage through nature. They are also highly energy efficient!

Accessible 55+ Living

As the Baby Boomer population ages up, it is becoming more and more important to have accessible, affordable, and walkable 55+ living. Many want homes in places where they can give up their car and opt for walking. Many boomers put an emphasis on places with a high walkability score.

What's Unpopular in Home Design?

With Home designs coming in, there are also designs phasing out. Check out the ones below

High Pile Carpet

High Pile, or shag carpet is going out of style. With it's magical ability to trap dirt and stains, it's no wonder people are opting for low pile carpet, vinyl, or tile flooring instead. While it is comfortable, it just isn't practical in homes with children, pets, or both.

Gray Cabinets

While gray cabinets make a statement and go along with the minimalistic, high-end style, homeowners are opting for cabinets styles with warmer hues to make it feel more welcoming and cozy.

Standard Subway Tiles

Instead of the small subway tiles running horizontally, new styles have larger tiles running vertically. This is to draw the eyes up and give it a taller, airier look.

Open Shelving

While open shelving provides a different dimension to kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms, many are finding it can lead to clutter. More people are opting for closed cabinets in kitchens rather than open shelving to maintain a clean, non-cluttered look.

Conclusion

So, should you capitalize on the trends? We think it would be beneficial. However, as far as the "Unpopular" designs, only pay attention to them if you are planning on selling/renting your home anytime soon.

If you like gray cabinets and open shelving for your long term home, we say go for it! Make the house a home!
