2023: HOLDING ONTO THE REINS AND REIGNING IT IN

The pandemic and economy over the last few years brought us instability and insecurity. HR stood resolute on a people-first mission and the foundation of building business from the ground up. However, in 2022, trying to navigate an uneven and bumpy road has led to developing greater flexibility and better understanding. In 2023, HR is going to pave a buoyant path forward.

The focus for 2023 will be forging solid connections with employees who work remotely and remaining connected to employees who are hybrid. The challenge is how to make and keep connections with the team while staying on course. There are many things to keep in mind while navigating: reimaging work models, keeping employees engaged and retaining them, maintaining mental wellness, and insuring financial well-being.

There will continue to be roadblocks. While some companies will demand that their employees return to the office, others will continue to value the hybrid and remote work models. Reassessing hiring processes and skills evaluations are also key factors to approach how employees can handle the fluctuating workplace. HR will continue to mitigate the challenge of workplace transformations by reaching out to employees, connecting colleagues, and leading the embrace of the company team. Mindful of the stresses that these work models present, HR leaders need to instill employee security via engagement, and connectedness.

Whichever route is taken, being in tune with employee experience and goals is crucial for 2023. When people can change direction within a company and/or elevate their career path, the company also benefits. Increasing employee opportunities, creating a compassionate work environment, and enhancing employee experience are other ways HR can strengthen employee retention and alleviate “quiet quitting.”

Mental and financial wellness is the definitive bottom line. Taking stock of all we’ve been through, how far we’ve come and how unstable the world around us remains, companies must invest in employee long-term well-being. Inflation will most likely lessen sometime in 2023, but the pressure of continued rising costs impacts everyone. Budgets tightening and people not necessarily communing around a water cooler are cause for added concern. It’s important to provide employees with emotional outlets and financial consideration. Companies who are sensitive to employee overall well-being are counting on HR leaders to be supportive and proactive advocates.

As we hold on to our #HR reins albeit a little more loosely, we continue to help reshape the workplace by reigning in how we approach the workforce in 2023. HR leadership is the extra dimension for providing the optimum employment experience.
