NEWS
2023 @ CarbonBetter
By Laura Alter , VP of Marketing
As we hit the ground running in 2024, it’s time to pause and reflect on what we’ve accomplished and learned as a team this past year—like we did in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, we hosted four webinars, had four speaking engagements, and published 54 blog posts and 26 newsletters, including collaborations with numerous sustainability thought leaders, to educate stakeholders and simplify what it takes to run sustainable, carbon-conscious businesses that realize positive returns on their sustainability investments. We are immensely grateful for the continued opportunity to serve our clients, collaborate with other leaders in the sustainability space, and work toward a future that’s better for business and our planet. Our commitment remains to guide organizations toward a net-zero future, and we’re excited about work already in progress for the coming year. Let’s take a moment to revisit some of the key milestones and achievements of our team in 2023 and look ahead to the exciting possibilities that 2024 holds.
From Challenge to Opportunity: Sustainability in the Health & Beauty Sector
By Chrissy Brogan , Nicole Sullivan , Tori Chen — This article was written in collaboration between Glow and CarbonBetter.
In our second article, we are exploring environmental challenges and opportunities in the health and beauty sector, from climate risk to packaging waste. Between the health and beauty sector’s environmental footprint and the potential business value of becoming more sustainable, it’s clear that health and beauty companies should take action now on sustainability. However, the “how” presents a significant challenge as businesses navigate the ever evolving landscape of various protocols, regulations, climate technologies, and market demands. Herein we will dig into environmentally material issues, climate risks, carbon footprint, circularity, waste, and more.
Transparency in Sustainability: Case Studies from Health & Beauty Brands
By Tori Chen , Chrissy Brogan — This article was written in collaboration between Glow and CarbonBetter.
The health and beauty sector, like other sectors, faces the challenge of making trustworthy claims that resonate with consumer expectations and adhering to evolving regulatory standards. Transparency and traceability are at the heart of these claims. According to NielsenIQ, 79% of shoppers express doubts about the authenticity of sustainability claims, underscoring the imperative for brands to substantiate their claims with transparent data and methodologies. In this final article in the series, we will explore how brands in the health and beauty sector are responding to these challenges, the innovative strategies they are employing to enhance transparency, and the methods used to ensure that their sustainability narratives stand firm against both consumer scrutiny and regulatory compliance.

A Primer on Hydroelectric Power
By Dominic Sung , Director of Business Development
领英推荐
Hydropower is one of the oldest sources for producing electricity and mechanical energy. In the form of water wheels, ancient civilizations designed these mechanisms with paddles that tapped into the energy of flowing or falling water. By the mid to late 1800s, the “modern” hydropower mechanism was developed to produce electricity. In 1882, these hydropower components were installed in Appleton, Wisconsin along the Fox River as the first hydroelectric power plant to produce electricity. Since then, about 1,450 conventional and 40 pumped-storage hydropower facilities have been developed in the U.S. today. Also, with its designation as a source of clean energy, hydropower is a key part of climate mitigation efforts.
