2023 employee engagement survey results
Not long ago we re-evaluated our values to ensure that they are relevant and reflective of rascal in today’s world. We settled on Friendly, Transparent, Determined and Agile as the attributes that we will operate and live by, both internally and externally. Claiming to “live by” your values can be cliche at a corporate level. In this short article I will share some results from our recent annual employee engagement survey, which helps bring to life just how engrained in rascal’s culture our values are.
Friendly: culture and workforce
I am most proud of the results that demonstrate the strong team culture and work ethic across the business. When employees feel valued, supported and empowered, they are more likely to go the extra mile. 100% of the rascal team said they feel and observe respect at work, with 95% saying they trust in their line managers. Trust and respect in the workplace are core to any business’ success. Our customers enjoy the impact of this, with 100% of the team saying they are determined to deliver their best effort everyday - this is the second year in a row we’ve returned this result and this consistent excellence is a great achievement.?
Transparent: communication
Clear and open communication promotes teamwork and collaboration among colleagues, this is embodied through our Transparent value. When individuals can effectively convey their ideas, thoughts, and concerns, it leads to better understanding and problem-solving. Collaboration within teams is a real point of success, with 95% seeing this as positive. Moreover, everyone feels they have good access to senior leadership when it is needed. One of the areas the survey highlighted for us to take a closer look at is cross-team communication, with a below average (but still creditable!) 86% thinking that is working well at the moment.?

Determined: the impact on our customers
The consistent and high colleague engagement levels across a wide variety of metrics combine to impact on the quality of work we deliver to our customers. 98% of the rascal team have positive feelings about how rascal works with and delivers for our customers. Furthermore, a resounding 100% of colleagues agreed that expectations with clients were clear. It is the first time we've had such an overwhelmingly positive response on this point so I’m pleased that our customers are feeling the positive impact of our strong internal culture.?
Agile: areas for improvement
The annual survey helps to highlight areas we can improve. In the past few years, we’ve changed a lot as a business, continually evolving and adapting to the ever-changing economic environment. The business is almost unrecognisable from both a solution and sophistication standpoint to where it was pre-pandemic. Managing and communicating that level of change and why it is happening in a coherent manner is a challenge that we continually work on and strive to improve. Whilst we were pleased to return a net positive result +4% vs. 2022, we know we can and will continue to improve.?
